Cincinnati in June (and a surprise)
« on: July 12, 2009, 05:46:26 PM »
These photos are from about two weeks ago before I came down here to Atlanta.  Please enjoy the random collection of photos from around town.

1. Inside Coffee Emporium's makeshift offices and coffee roasting area at their Central Parkway location in historic Over-the-Rhine.

2. The roasting specialist gives me an in-depth look at Coffee Emporium's roasting operations.

3. Coffee Emporium's 12 kilo roaster produces about 24 lbs of roasted coffee beans in each batch that takes about 16 to 18 minutes.

4. Mayor Mallory doing his thing inside Coffee Emporium.

5. Just up the street is what will become Coffee Emporium's new permanent offices and roasting facility that will double their current capacity.  This is the second level interior of what will be the offices at 12th & Walnut streets.

6. This area will be the roasting area and allow tastings for those looking for a particular coffee taste. Special coffee tasting events are also on the agenda after the space is transformed.

7. The L&N Bridge used to carry both vehicular traffic and freight trains at one point. It's the second oldest bridge in Cincinnati (Roebling Suspension Bridge #1), and has been turned into a pedestrian bridge that often hosts art displays and other events.

8. The main pedestrian span of the bridge was blocked off as they were deconstructing a large art display that had been up.

9. Downtown Cincinnati just a short jaunt away.

10. Great for family strolls, runners and others looking to take in the mighty Ohio River and the city.

11. One of the massive stone columns that hold the span up.

12. Love it.

13. Insert One River Plaza condominium towers here.

14. The owner of Outside, Terry Lee, inside his shop in historic Over-the-Rhine.

15. Piatt Park during an acoustic lunch music series that is held on Tuesday afternoons.

16. The Righteous Room will be opening later this month and is a new neighborhood style bar in downtown Cincinnati's Backstage District (sorry for the crappy picture quality).

17. And another wide shot of the Righteous Room (equally crappy).

18. Sawyer Point along the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati.

19. Serpentine Wall and One Lytle Place residential tower along the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati.

20. New Taft High School continues its progress in Cincinnati's West End neighborhood (shoddy photostitch attempt)

21. The Banks is a $1 billion high density mixed-use development in downtown Cincinnati along the Ohio River in between Great American Ballpark (Reds) and Paul Brown Stadium (Bengals).

22. Tower cranes come out of the ground at The Banks and at the construction site for Queen City Square II (Great American Insurance Tower) which will become Cincinnati's tallest skyscraper.

23. The new street grid and underground parking garages are clearly visible as The Banks development emerges from its subterranean construction.

24. Cincinnati's new 45-acre Central Riverfront Park is under construction. The park will tie into the existing collection of riverfront parks and is intended to become the crown jewel of the nationally renowned Cincinnati park system.

25. View back into the Central Business District with the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center at left and the historic Carew Tower in the background.

26. Rowhouses in Cincinnati's West End neighborhood.

27. This is my new place in Midtown Atlanta (the motel looking one).

28. This is my new front yard at 6th & Peachtree streets (feel free to come visit).

I've got a full-time job that is based out of Atlanta and as a result I need a place here.  The job keeps me on the road much of the time so it's not as if Atlanta is home.  I'll be back in Cincinnati a couple of times a month for a variety of things including my writing job with Soapbox Cincinnati.

Atlanta is Atlanta.  It's not my kind of place, but Midtown is probably the best alternative if you have to be anywhere in the south.  I walk to MARTA and take a quick ride to work everyday.  I can walk to the grocery store, Piedmont Park, movie theatre, tons of shopping and dining and lots of great nightlife.  There are tons of young people around too and the positive energy is incredible - one thing you tend to not find in the Midwest.

So you live across the street from bulldogs, star bucks, The vortex, CVS, et all.   he he he  "how you doin'?"  Make sure to stay off cypress street.

I suggest you don't stay in your neighborhood, labor day weekend, it will be a hot mess.

Great pics... Midtown Atlanta doesn't look as desolate as I remember it being in the early 90's.

And now I know where to buy my coffee if/when I find myself living back in Cincy. I hope they have a good French roast.
It's all fun and games until somebody gets burned at the stake.

Good shots.
I love it when people come into a message board and immediately begin to mix it up.  I mean, Jesus, at least say hello!  Do you walk into a room full of strangers, pick a random woman, and tell her she's fat? - buildingcincinnati

Nice shots!  It's cool to see these sort of stories about businesses.  I also appreciate the construction shots.  I haven't seen the Banks up close since it was just an empty site.

umm  No honey, they weren't.  and during labor day, the gays will take over that area.

How do you know this, MTS??? Been checking the area out while you were on 'break'?
I had employee that lives in the metropolis building. and there used to be to clubs there.  Backstreet was on 5/juniper and was open 24 hours.   Those blocks west of peachtree were infamous for male hookers.   I had another employee that lived on the corner of 10 and cypress and the hookers would rest/hide in the marta station.

Why, Cypress Street is where all the best streetlife is.

Cypress is HOOKER, HOES & PROSITUTES.
