My latest pet peeve:

Although it's an EXTREMELY exciting time to live in Cleveland this summer, as someone who has to go downtown every day, I'm already getting really annoyed by the people who come downtown once in a blue moon for things like (what ended up being) the Cavs Championship game, the Cavs Parade today (and no doubt the RNC will be a similar scenario.) They come in on trains, get wasted and leave their trash (beer bottles, wrappers, cigarette packs, etc.) all over the streets for someone else to have to pick up. I've literally seen ambassadors just use a rake to scoop up the trash around Public Square, there's been so much of it.

Then when they're done getting plastered, they go back to Tower City and while they're waiting 5 hours in line for a train (because RTA isn't used to having to handle a million extra passengers who only care to go downtown when the Cavs win a championship) they p!ss and moan all over facebook about how RTA sucks and takes forever.

Once they get back to suburbia they'll go back to talking smack about Cleveland even about what about what a dirty city it is. Meanwhile, those of us who live, work or study downtown on a daily basis have to trip over the disgusting mess they've left behind.

Even during all the hype for the event, I noticed that there was no "donít leave s*** behind" propaganda in there.   This can really make a difference when people are going somewhere for what they see as a positive reason.  The Tea Party rallies were particularly good at it.

People who claim Superman is Jewish simply because his creators were and there are some allegories to Moses. That's like saying Wonder Woman is male because her creators were and there are allegories to Achilles. Such a stupid trope.

I hate how there's not an emergency room for dentistry. The tooth I had root canaled is now fractured and infected; my gum is really swollen by the tooth. This is so uncomfortable. I went to a dentist Friday for it and he didn't do anything about it at all except refer me to an Endodontist like 20 miles away in Westlake and also refer me to an oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth to be pulled. He did a teeth cleaning and filled cavities which I wasn't really concerned about at all right now and by the time I got out of there it was 5 o'clock to where I couldn't even call the place he referred me to. God knows how long it will take to get an appointment with an Endodontist. I can't even call anyone because it's Sunday.

No wonder people don't think dentists are real doctors. They don't do sh!t except fillings and teeth cleaning. They suck. If he knew I had an infection from the fractured root canal and swollen section of my gum, shouldn't he have prescribed me antibiotics?!

Perhaps you should switch Doctors?  If you don't like the advice your doctor is giving you, why are you still a patient?  Sorry, but this is not about the Doctor, this is about you.  You have options.

Well, it's common to not like someone's advice, lol. When people go to college for a long time or do apprenticeships or have a lot of experience in something, you're supposed to be able to trust their judgement over your own. I didn't have a dentist in Cleveland (I haven't lived here that long so I'm not established with stuff like doctors.) I live by Fairmount and Eaton and this place is on Cedar Rd. just a few blocks north by Chipotle so it's really convenient and takes my insurance. Plus, they're open 7 days a week until 9pm which is convenient. They even do walk-ins. They suck though. I waited an hour to be seen, even though I had an appointment. I actually just went back up there tonight and got a prescription for antibiotics.

I think to fix the fracture and have the root canal redone, I'm going to call Case's Dental School in the morning. I've heard good things about the place. It's basically the only emergency dental place in Cleveland for Endodontics and I like the fact that they have all different types of specialists there so I don't have to be referred to all these different places. Since it's an emergency I'm thinking they should be able to take me the same day, even though they take a limited number of patients.

What's f-ed up about my regular dentist office, "Immediadent" (other than the corny name) is on their website it says they're a full service dental office. It's really misleading. They literally just do cleaning, fillings and pulling teeth that are really easy to pull, as far as real dental work goes. They won't pull my wisdom teeth and they don't do Endodontics (root canal / fractures) yet here is the list of services on their website:

Extractions (including wisdom teeth extractions)
 + Complete Dentures
 + Partial Dentures
 + Emergency Dental Treatment
 + Repair of Chipped/Broken Teeth
 + Crowns & Bridges
 + Fillings
 + Veneers
 + Root Canal Treatment
 + Teeth Cleaning
 + Scaling & Root Planning
 + Gum Diseases Treatment
 + Exams & X-rays
 + Teeth Whitening
 + Mouth Guards
 + Snore Guards
 + Immediate Dentures
 + Dental Implants-supported Crowns
 + Dental Implants (select locations)

LIES.

It's annoying that dentistry is so specialized. Dentistry is already a subset of medical care. That's why I don't view general dentists as real doctors. It sucks it takes months to get an appointment with a specialist. I called an oral surgeon's office about my wisdom teeth and they said they couldn't see me until December.

I had to have a root canal from 2009 redone last year, and my regular dentist told me the only reason he couldn't do it was that the Endodontics office had a better "parts inventory".

That's funny, my dentist told me something really similar. He said he could do it but he doesn't have a microscope. Dude I'll buy you a microscope if we can get this sh!t over with. The fact is, they know how to do all of those procedures. They're trained in oral surgery, endo and orthodontics and they're legally allowed to perform those procedures. Most of them just aren't confident in their abilities so they give you referrals for everything, have you drive clear across town for an appointment to see specialists 2 months later when they're available. Then they get offended when you tell them they're not real doctors. That's because all you do is clean teeth and fill cavities! It shouldn't take 7 years of college to learn how to do that. General Dentistry should be a 1 year apprenticeship if you ask me. I bet I could learn how and master filling cavities in a few months.

Another thing that's bullsh!t is when you change general dentists or they send you to specialists, the next Dr. also performs and charges for consultations/exams and x-rays when you walk in the door, even though they should easily be able to obtain all your records. They all (general and specialists) love taking x-rays and doing all the b.s. initial stuff that they can charge you and the insurance companies for, even though you've just had all of that done before you were referred or switched offices. My insurance company has probably spent thousands of dollars just on unnecessary x-rays and screenings because the dr. says "the x-ray they sent over was blurry" or "something could have changed in a month." It must be nice to make a guaranteed extra $80-$200 each time your client walks in the door just by hitting a button and taking a picture of their teeth.

It's no wonder insurance premiums are outrageous and people can't afford it. I really think it's a huge part of their business model to milk insurance companies for every little service. They do stuff in excess when they know it's something that isn't coming directly out of your pocket. That sort of stuff is considered preventative care and always covered at 100% so customers aren't going to care. I don't need to be tested for oral cancer and have an x-ray done and all that stuff, every time I go in. It's so annoying and time consuming. If they maintain a database of records / documentation that every office could tap into, they should know what you do and don't need based on how much time has gone by since you've had that service. That's something the government needs to look into.

I'm not sure if I mentioned people who stand and hold conversations (usually inane) in doorways or other choke points.   If so, it's still worth another mention.

Thank you, RTA, you p!ss poor excuse for a public transit system, for causing me to miss my job interview! It's a really good contract software engineering job for an insurance company and you just made me look irresponsible because your sh!tty, apathetic, bureaucratic, (un)organization thinks it's acceptable for buses to arrive at stops MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES before it's scheduled to. Since it was already an hour and 5 minute trip, involving two buses and a lot of walking, I literally would have had to leave a few hours earlier to be on the 'safe side'.

There's an unbelievable amount of construction on Lee Rd. As far as I know, from Lee and Mayfield Rd. all the way through Cleveland Heights and probably extends to at least Lee Rd. and Shaker Blvd. or Lee Rd. to Chagrin at various spots throughout. They set up all these crazy detours but RideRTA.com mentions NOTHING of the sort. No warning at all about any bus service delays. I checked the website. This is absolute BULL. There is absolutely no way you could present an argument to me that it's out of RTA's control to make adjustments for construction and at the very least, as a courtesy, WARN SOMEBODY WHEN THEY PUT THEIR TRUST IN YOU TO GET THEM TO A JOB INTERVIEW.

You know, I always wondered why Cleveland RTA buses almost never have schedule pamphlets on their buses (and if they do, they're literally ALWAYS for other bus routes.) Now I know why! They don't honor their own schedules anyway, so it doesn't matter! Why waste the paper?

Donald Trump has inspired me. I think I'm going to try to sue RTA. Luckily the IT Department head who I was supposed to meet up with, seemed really understanding and told me I could come in tomorrow any time but if it transpires that I don't get this job due to what may be perceived as my own irresponsibility, RTA can just pay for my contract. I know exactly where the money could come from, too!  I'll help them and make it easy for them with the following proposal. The Red Line which is practically useless for anyone not going to or coming from the airport and for most hours runs almost entirely empty train cars every 10 to 15 minutes could simply run every 15-20, especially during non-peak hours! Hell, if they did that, they could not only reimburse me for the contract but also have enough left over to add more bus service on one of their many, very popular bus routes that only run once every 40 minutes to an hour during peak hours! They'd solve a lot of hidden injuries, too, as less people would be at risk of dying from extreme heat exhaustion or frost bite, waiting around as they pray to God that their bus eventually shows up. Also, less elderly people would have to stand (something I've honest to God had to witness) because the buses are so packed from infrequent service and so many douche nozzles won't give up their seat or think their backpack deserves a seat before their elders do.

What the hell is going on with RTA? I need to know what's going on and why, and figure out what I can do about it. I'm seriously ready to start a public transit revolution in NE Ohio. This is ridiculous! I've lived in a lot of cities. I've visited even more cities. NE Ohio has the absolute WORST public transit system I've ever experienced in any city and I know I'm not alone in constantly being screwed over by it. I need to know how to get involved, to change this. I know I joke around a lot on this forum and you all never know when to take me seriously but I'm dead serious right now. I've finally had enough. They just raised the fares, it's now $5.50 for a day pass, $2.50 for a one-way and THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TRANSFERS! I found that out when I went from Shaker Square destined to the W. 25th St. Station. That is absolutely insane. $5.00 to go 5, maybe 6 miles in a perfectly straight shot!? They're robbing poor people blind, who rely on public transit by forcing them to pay twice or get a day pass when it's totally unnecessary. It's not right! There's no bus service to so many major employment center nodes like Westlake, Elyria, Independence, Strongsville, Lorain, etc. It's horrible! I wonder how many other people there are, like me, who have missed a job interview or have missed out on great, extremely high paying employment opportunities in the suburbs where there is no bus service anywhere nearby, because they rely on public transportation until they can get back on their feet. It's sad and it makes me sick. This other IT Dept. head contacted me a month ago and said he was "EXTREMELY interested" in me after looking at my resume and wanted me to come in the NEXT day for an interview but I had to call him back later and decline the offer because there's no way for me to get to Elyria! I'd be willing to walk for up to a half hour on top of taking a bus but there's no bus service anywhere near the people I get job offers from! Robert Half - Technology also called me about an IT job at Mercy Hospital that pays 18 / hr. plus unlimited overtime but I had to decline the job offer because there isn't bus service to Lorain! When I told the recruiter that it's too far away from where I live, she kept upping my pay rate to try to sway me until finally I told her I just don't have a car and there's no public transit that comes remotely close to there.

It's so frustrating. I've depleted all of my savings and assets to go back to school and now that I've graduated, I can't even get a job in Cleveland in an in-demand field. I fell in love with Cleveland; I love it here so much but I've been so tempted to move back to Columbus. There's more tech jobs and they pay $18k more per year on average. The cost of living is lower and the public transis system is infinitely better, despite them not having trains.

This is just my story! As much as I feel down and out from my struggles, at least I have some prospects and I've been lucky enough to find some side jobs - painting, landscaping, even some web design to get me by until I make it to the big league. It makes me so sad to think about people who are in an even worse position than me who've missed an opportunity of a lifetime obtaining their dream job because whatever leadership involved, doesn't allow them to get to it. Or all the people who were probably fired because their buses don't show up like they're supposed to and they've been massively late too many times and don't make enough money to buy a car and pay all the expenses associated with it.

With this election, there's been so much talk about "job creation." We hear it so much. We need to create jobs! We need to protect our jobs! We need to keep our jobs here! What good are jobs if so many people can't even get to them!? It seems like hardly anyone even ponders how horrible of a situation it is. It's obviously bad for poor people who can't get around easily but it's also bad for employers who desperately need workers. It's bad for city and regional economics when jobs are going unfilled because people can't get to them!

Man, there are just countless hidden injuries of this wildly inefficient and sub-par transit system known as RTA.

I can't stand it either, especially action movies.  Small, non-chain theaters are better... if you have one near you.

I don't go to many movies, and when I do I go to a small local theater (Esquire in Cincinnati) for the more artsy fartsy type movies so I don't come across any loudness there. I do, however, hate how loud some bands are when they play in small venues (I'm thinking MOTR). I bring or buy ear plugs there all the time.

I've literally been getting about 10 telemarketing calls a day to my cell phone from at least 10 different home security companies. They're probably all just sub-conractors of ADT who has already had a class-action lawsuit against them for this. They call me all day long, especially at work when it's not very professional to have my phone ringing non-stop and me answering it frequently. Their calls come from every area code imaginable and I never know if it's important or not. I don't know how they all got my number but I think it started when I got a robo-call very cleverly explaining to me that I now have over $10k in credit card debt and 'press one to talk to a live agent to resolve the issue.' I pressed the button to figure out who the hell racked up over $10k in CC debt and with what bank and wanted to get to the bottom of it but I think that was a trick to get me to press a button and verify that my number is active, which led to my number being sold to a bunch of companies.

I tell them to stop calling me and they always tell me they're going to put me on a "do not call list." The last thing I want is to be put on anymore 'lists!' What I need them to do is take me OFF of the lists! They're like 'Ok.' Then I get another call from them literally two minutes later!

I just found out about https://www.donotcall.gov/ It puts you on a real Do-Not-Call registry. Hopefully it ultimately works. I'm not sure how long it takes to kick in or how effective it is. I signed up five minutes ago and got another call two minutes ago. Hopefully this gov't database contains numbers that it's illegal to ever call and these companies have to load their own database monthly with all of the new data. I honestly have no idea how this is supposed to work with telemarketing calls or if it's effective but I figured it's worth a shot.

I really thought it was illegal to call people, offering "Home security solutions." That's a robbery waiting to happen.

Here's how I picture a conversation on the phone going down"

Homeowner: "Oh yeah, you know, I just moved to Gates Mills and haven't had a chance to install a security system yet." Tell me more about your services..."

Scammer: "Great! What is your address and at what times are you typically home, so that we can send a sales representative to your house and discuss our various packages and features?"

Homeowner "Oh, me and my life both work so early in the day would be no good; we usually get home around 5pm"

If you actually call ADT they will never stop calling you, unless you scream, yell and threaten to sue them.    I made the mistake once and regretted it.   Ended up going with a local Cleveland company instead--first Gilmour and now Sievers.  Much better service and no sales calls!

There really should be strict laws in place in regards to telemarketing. Marketing has evolved so much in recent years and overall, their techniques are less annoying and damaging to their own brand. They can reach people in so many different ways and in more effective ways that are less offensive, obnoxious and a waste of folks valuable time - especially with the proliferation of the internet. Sites - social media, forums/news groups/ etc. Look at social media sites and how companies like Google, Facebook and YouTube obtain data pertaining to your personal interests including those that are a result of search inquiries which become cached through your web browser and available to them. You do a google search on some product or your Android (Google) phone using searches and perhaps even just key strokes or voice commands when you say "take me to the closest Target" to get directions. An ad for said retail location pops up on your Facebook news feed the next day. At least it makes sense that you're being fed an ad for that product/service; I mean you obviously have an interest in shopping at Target and probably don't mind hearing about their latest promotions and considering sites like Facebook and YouTube are free but require revenue to pay their software engineers, provide hosting and all other expenses involved and truly deserve to make a profit, it's actually a reasonable and fair tradeoff but getting tons of random calls through your phone throughout the day from people peddling the most random products - it's just such an antiquated model. I've been wasting so many minutes of my life lately answering these pointless calls because I could actually have an important incoming call from another, very random area code and can't take that chance.

There's just no reason why they should be allowed to bother people the way they do, over the phone. I'm not claiming that I'm this really important person whose every minute of the day is worth so much but people deserve to not be annoyed when they did absolutely nothing to warrant it.

Back in the day, door-to-door salesman were actually somewhat useful because information about superior products weren't available like they are now. It's so easy now to figure out what you need and what's best for you.

I actually sympathize with ADT - to a degree, though. I don't think their method is that effective and going to get them many more contracts but you at least expressed initial interest, which is why they're vigilantly following up with you.

These companies who call and harass me all day long have never been given any indication from me that I'm actually interested in home security.

Never in my life have I reached out to home security companies. Honestly, I think that for the most part, they are a huge rip off and cater to extremely paranoid individuals. Unless your property contains really expensive or irreplaceable assets or you are somehow a 'target' or your ADT security lowers your insurance premiums, it's most likely not even worth getting. I'm not a homeowner though and if I had extremely high valued tangible assets worth paying to protect, they'd certainly be located in a security deposit box or certain other remote locations anyway. Not where everyone knows that I live.

Who else even has a landline, let alone answers unknown calls?

You don't even need to push a button to be identified as a working number. Just the fact that you answer and say "hello" registers your number. Likewise, letting it go to voicemail does the same because there is outgoing audio.

The way I handle these is as I answer I immediately mute the call. There's always silence for a few seconds on the other end and then the call auto terminates.

If it's a live person they will voluntarily say hello when the realize the line has stopped ringing and someone or something has picked up.

I did this a few times when I got these calls and tennthey tailed off to the point I get basically zero.

One of my biggest pet peeves:  why does the USA pay more attention to December 7th and September 11th than to July 20th and 21st?

I wish there were a database of all unruly and rude retail/restauraunt customers. A "do not serve" list shared nationwide. The best judge of character is how someone treats a clerk or server, and rude customers can go eat dirt and rocks if they behave poorly.

More customers should be expelled from restaurants and retail shops, and have to make amends if they ever want direct service again. Employers have been welcoming hostile people and permitting employee abuse far too long.

Because the South lost the war, and to borrow a line from the president, "we don't celebrate losers in this country"

^ Dec 7 is Pearl Harbor Day, July 20 was the first day the Confederate Congress convened, and July 21 is Battle of Bull Run which the South won (or as us Yankees refer to it, the battle of Manasass).

July 20, 1969 is the day that America landed on the moon.

But of course you do know that the moon landing was staged in a Hollywood studio and therefore is not worth celebrating. :)

Also, we don't celebrate the moon landing because the moon is weak sauce. When we do something truly impressive  like having man walk on the sun, then maybe we will celebrate that.

We'll have to send people to walk on the sun at night so they don't burn up.

Any holiday celebrating any victory for the South is akin to celebrating treason against the United States.
