CLEVELAND - Stacked, Hot, and Fuzzy!
« on: November 09, 2006, 09:55:34 PM »
I figured one of those might get your attention! ;) Just some random shots from the past few days while the nice weather was around:

My folks came to visit, and in what has become a tradition we stopped at Slymans. My Dad saw their famous corned beef sandwich on one of Rachel Ray's shows and ever since, he's found a new favorite sandwich. This thing is absolutely colossal - see what I mean by stacked?

Next stop was the Botanical Gardens to the "hot" greenhouse - no idea what this thing was:

Blue! Bird! But not a bluebird!

Funky flora!

Headed up to the top floor of my office building for a few shots.

Looking east towards Midtown in the foreground and University Circle in the background:

blinker12 and 8ShadesofGray's hood:

Back down to the ground:

Progress continues on the Corner Alley bowling complex:

And a fuzzy bonus from when we had some dense fog downtown:

Great pics all around. But I love dense fog in an urban setting. That second-to-last pic, as grayscale, is my fav.

Nice shots. Just spent the last week in Fort worth. The city is smaller then Cleveland, but similar in scale.
I'll post my shots at a later day as I will be spending most of the weekend catching up on chores, homework, painting, family and Urban Ohio posts... not necessarily in that order.

Ditto.

I love the detail and saturated colors in the conservatory photos, too, and the color of afternoon light this time of year makes for great overview photos.

outstanding shots all around. wow the fog shots were something else.

ooba dooba i love sylman's, but i was a die hard rathskeller back in it's old space. i tell these humps in ny about cleveland's historic corned beef fetish & they look at me like i'm crazy, but 'tis true....! ny=pastrami & clev=corned beef.

The B&W fog pix are outstanding!  Reminds me of old B&W's of Manhattan in the 30's.  Something about a big city in the fog.

The fog shots.....definetly.  My favorite is the first one, with the hotel and the lamps on Public Square.  That could almost be a poster or postcard.

b/w + fog + street lights = great

thanks for taking those shots from high a-top there.

Was I the only guy that caught " Unik Insurance" (9th pic) - talk about a niche market. ;)

his active timeline range was wider than i thought as emphasized by this book:

"Steichen's Legacy, Photographs 1895-1973" by Joanna T. Steichen, more than 300 illustrations, Alfred A. Knopf, 2000, $100

but i think his heyday was the ought's thru the 1930's, with his peak being the 'family of man' show in 1955 (another nice coffee table photo book to have, easy to find & inexpensive too).
