It was stated upthread that the crane should be in the sky in August

I don't think that's the case anymore. I think we're looking October-November.

I would expect to see concrete walls/foundation floors in place before that. In fact, I don't think they've even put the foundation pad in place yet, have they?

Not to my (limited) knowledge

As much as I don't like seeing threads going off topic, I think the following photos of the Hilton construction might help put things in perspective.

March 7, 2014
End of the "moving dirt around" phase, note how the site is smoothed out (Lumen site isn't at this point yet):

April 17,2014
Caisson drilling equipment has been set up:

May 9, 2014
Caisson drilling well underway:

July 16, 2014
We finally see the first portion of the tower crane (far right of photo), and by the end of July the first phase of the tower crane was in place:

That was on topic...and depressing! So we could be looking at December or January before the tower crane makes its appearance?

Are they using caissons or a pad to support the Lumen?

This article also provides remarkable detail on the complexity of the project's capital stack and public subsidies...

The article also states that Cleveland new construction costs are equal to Chicago?

That's probably true. Is there a way to reduce them? Probably deserves its own thread.

I'm not sure if I believe it. Chicago has some interesting building codes that add costs to construction. But construction is not my area of expertise.
