^And amid all of this development Arnold S. Levine refuses to sell those parking lots!

Actually, many of those lots on the Pendleton-OTR border which previously advertised only monthly parking have recently installed ticket kiosks and are now renting out their spaces during night and weekend hours. The Peaslee Neighborhood Center on 14th Street did the same. So unfortunately, all of those lots appear to be here to stay for the foreseeable future.

I suspect that Arnold S. Levine is going to wait until there is no more developable land in the neighborhood before he tests the market.

Wow. It sounds like the owner, frankly, did not know much about how to run a business.

Isn't the first rule of opening a business (especially a restaurant) to have enough cash on hand to survive for at least six months with no income? I feel bad for the guy. Seems like he got in over his head and didn't have the people around him to let him know it.

Yeah but that probably wouldn't be so important if he had just kept Cilantro going.  I didn't notice any change to the business since he took it over in the spring so at least from the outside it didn't look to me like there was a problem.  But there certainly wasn't a marketing push or anything else, either.

The Ninja Grill is inexplicably very popular, at least by appearances.  It's not very good food.  I gave it three tries and it was never good.  But the people keep coming.  I don't know if they took away business from Cilantro or not.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Cuban Pete's on court street.  We use to frequent there a lot and one day they were closed and going to re open and now nothing. Did the business bite the dust completely? I sure hope not, they are the only place with a good cuban and fried sweet plantains

Indian-inspired food cart sets opening date for permanent OTR location

An Indian-inspired food cart that started serving at Findlay Market set a date for the opening of its brick-and-mortar home in Over-the-Rhine.

Injoy will open in the former Picnic and Pantry space at 1400 Republic St. in Over-the-Rhine on April 14, the restaurant announced on its Facebook page.

Injoy started as a vendor at Findlay Market serving burritos and bowls inspired by traditional Indian cuisine. It serves a new take on classic tikka masala with a selection of basmati rice, tikkasala sauce, sauteed onions and peppers, chicken or aloo gobi, curry peanuts, garlic mint yogurt, sweet chili sauce, pickled onions, cilantro and naan.

Bagel shop opening in Over-the-Rhine

A bagel shop born in Findlay Market's kitchen accelerator is opening a brick-and-mortar location in Over-the-Rhine to serve the breakfast and lunch needs of urban residents and businesses.

The Bagelry plans to open at 1401 Walnut St. by September. Founder Richard Huff told me the idea was born when he and his wife moved to Over-the-Rhine from Louisville, where they had both attended college and graduate school.

"When we were in Louisville, we were both starting our careers and lots of time it was hard to find time for each other, so we'd spend time at a bagel shop there called Nancy's," Huff said. "I grew a strong affection for bagel around that. Then, we moved back to Over-the-Rhine and we didn't have that option."

Collective Espresso owner opens deli/grocery in Over-the-Rhine

The owner of Collective Espresso has opened an urban corner deli and grocery store across the street from his Over-the-Rhine coffee shop.

Dustin Miller opened the Takeaway at 1324 Main St. on March 17. It grew out of Miller's looking across the street at that vacant building from Collective Espresso, which he opened in 2012, for six years.

"There's a real need on Main Street for a corner deli and grocery, which I learned after being across the street just listening to what people's desires were for Main," Miller told me. "There's nowhere to get fresh food and nowhere to get the basic sandwich, so we're trying to hit that need."

Owners of OTR's Pleasantry opening fast-casual chicken restaurant

The owners of Over-the-Rhine's Pleasantry are opening a new chef-driven fast-casual concept downtown based on one of their first restaurant's most popular items.

Joanna Kirkendall and Daniel Souder are planning a yet-unnamed fast-casual chicken concept in a ground-floor space in the Eighth and Sycamore development downtown at Eighth and Sycamore streets. The duo are working working with Chef Evan Hartman, who they opened Pleasantry with in summer 2016. They hope for it to be open by late summer or early fall.

Look inside Gold Star 2.0: Cincinnati classic rolls out new branding, menu

When Roger David came on to head up Gold Star Chili, the company founded by his father, he wanted to reimagine the chili experience. Now, nearly three years later, he's rolling out what he's calling Gold Star 2.0.

Roger David is the son of Beshara David, who founded Gold Star Chili with his three brothers in 1965. When he came on as CEO in 2015, he saw his role as redefining what the Gold Star experience would be for the next 50 years. That's starting to roll out beginning with the Liberty Center Gold Star location on April 10. Flip through the photos for a look inside.

First standalone Keystone’s Mac Shack to open on the West Side

Four Entertainment Group is opening its first standalone Keystone’s Mac Shack on the West Side.

The Over-the-Rhine-based restaurant and bar operator plans to open a Keystone’s Mac Shack location in Green Township at the Harrison Greene development. The company has signed a long-term lease for the space that was most recently home to a Tom + Chee restaurant.

Dan Cronican, managing partner with 4EG who oversees Keystone Bar & Grill operations, said Mac Shack will be built on the brand 4EG has created with Keystone with a focus on mac and cheese and craft beer. The fast-casual restaurant will be 4EG’s first location on the West Side.

Sacred Beast, OTR’s new bar and diner, is now open

Sacred Beast is the latest restaurant to open in Over-the-Rhine, the historic neighborhood just north of Cincinnati’s Central Business District.

Jeremy and Bridget Lieb are the husband-and-wife duo who opened the restaurant. Both have an extensive background in the restaurant industry. Jeremy Lieb is the former executive chef of Boca Restaurant Group, while Bridget Lieb worked at the London Club, Mariposa and Gastronomy Management Group. They met at the Maisonette in 1994, where they both were working at the time.
