Dayton director: Modernization projects crucial for airport’s future

...
The first phase will reconstruct the front of the terminal with new, modern glass walls, restrooms and canopies, as well as new pavement, curb, lighting and a PA system. The airport has been talking about these improvements for several years and has financing in place after bond sales, as well as some recent sewer and infrastructure work.

“The primary goal is to get the terminal a modern look that is much easier for people to use,” Slaybaugh said. “We’re consolidating the rental car facility to a new building and the rental car service facility.”

Thank God they are modernizing the airport. The terminals and walkways from security all are super dated.

United Airlines to add non-stop flight from Dayton to Houston

Dayton International Airport has added a new flight to its departure schedule.

United Airlines will begin a daily non-stop flight between Houston and Dayton starting June 7. Dayton is one of just eight cities chosen by United to receive new non-stop routes as part of the airline's extended flight schedule.

"We are extremely excited about United's decision to bring additional service to Dayton," said Terry Slaybaugh, director of aviation for the city of Dayton and the airport's director. "Our passengers and business community will benefit from the convenience of this new nonstop flight to Houston. We are proud to be a part of United Airline's plans to provide optimal service to its customers."

Dayton airport sets sights on hotel, new investments that could create 'a couple thousand' jobs

The Dayton International Airport is seeing a surge of development in the area that surrounds the facility, and now the region's travel hub is setting its sights on a new hotel.

One of the airport's main goals in 2018 is to sign an agreement with a developer to build a hotel on the property. DIA has not had an adjacent hotel since 2010.

Airport Director Terry Slaybaugh wants that to change soon.

Dayton airport to offer new concierge service

A new concierge service will be available to all passengers and guests at the Dayton International Airport by May, following approval by the Dayton City Commission.

The goal of the concierge team is to be "interactive" with patrons while they are at the airport, according to airport director Terry Slaybaugh.

"The concierge employees will engage with the public as they arrive at the terminal, offering assistance and guidance with information about the airport, their travel needs, the Dayton community and more," Slaybaugh said. "The team will circulate through the entire pre-security parts of the terminal and parking structures, including greeting those passengers exiting the terminal to baggage claim."

Airline looks to expand operations at Dayton airport, create 70 new jobs

Air Wisconsin Airlines is looking to invest $1 million and bring dozens of new jobs to the region as part of an expansion project at the Dayton International Airport.

Air Wisconsin — a carrier for United Airlines — plans to relocate maintenance and training operations from Virginia to Dayton, which would create up to 70 jobs and generate $3.4 million in new payroll. The airline currently performs maintenance at the airport, but it employs just a few people.

As passenger traffic continues to decline at the Dayton International Airport, airports in Cincinnati and Columbus are seeing increases as the busy summer vacation season begins.

Around 93,244 passengers flew out of the Dayton airport in May, more than 3,000 less than the year before during the same month. For the year, 405,659 travelers have flown from the Dayton airport compared to the 416,023 passengers who flew in the same time period last year.

Airport eyes second flight to Houston, direct route to Boston

Less than two weeks after the newest non-stop flight from Dayton to Houston lifted off, United Airlines is planning to upgrade its equipment with a larger aircraft to accommodate the passenger load.

And if the carrier sees success with a higher-capacity plane, it could add another flight to the Texas city.

"It's exciting that, in less than 15 days of service, this flight is already successful enough to warrant a larger aircraft," said Terry Slaybaugh, director of the Dayton International Airport. "If we can be successful and fill up this (larger aircraft), the next logical thing for them to do is get a second flight."
