Look inside MadTree 2.0, the brewery's newly opened $18M expansion

It was just more than a year in the making, but MadTree's brand-new brewing facility and taproom is now open to the public and pouring beer.

MadTree moved from its former site at 5140 Kennedy Ave. to the old RockTenn Co. paper mill at 3301 Madison Road in Oakley. Click through the photos below for a look inside.

Distillery-brewery coming to Over-the-Rhine

http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2016/06/02/distillery-brewery-coming-to-over-the-rhine.html

Historic Christian Moerlein icehouse to house new distillery and brewery

A building that was once part of the historic Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. complex in Over-the-Rhine will become home to a new craft brewery and distillery this summer.

The yet-to-be-named brewery and distillery will open inside the former Moerlein icehouse at 108 Henry St. by June or July, according to two of its co-founders, David Berger and Bryan Becker.

“This has been in planning for two years,” said Berger. “It’s sort of bringing the building back to what it used to be.”

OTR brewery-distillery to open this summer

An Over-the-Rhine brewery and distillery is set to open this summer.

According to a Miami University student working with the brewery on marketing, it will be called Northern Row Brewery and Distillery and open at 108 Henry St. by June or July of this year. The brewery and distillery's existence, then called Henry Street Brewery & Distillery, was first reported by the Courier last June.

Maybe not the most perfect location for this, but it was a nice shutout to Rhinegeist and the Brewery District and its role in revitilization:

What Should Cities Make?

There probably isn’t a city out there that wouldn’t like to be the next Silicon Valley. But cities will do better focusing on their distinctive assets and helping a manufacturing scene grow organically.

Take Cincinnati. In the mid-19th century, German immigrants settled in the city’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood and started brewing lager and opening beer gardens.

20 years ago when I lived in Knoxville, TN my boss at Blimpie Subs said somebody should make Volunteer Beer.  Still hasn't happened.

Another Cincinnati brewery completely sells out of beer on its opening weekend

Don't ever accuse Cincinnatians of not being thirsty. Just a week after MadTree sold out of beer while celebrating the opening of its new brewery, another Cincinnati brewery is tapped out.

Brink Brewing Co. at 5905 Hamilton Ave. in College Hill opened to the public on Feb. 19. After two days in business, the brewery was completely out of beer. It's closed until Friday, March 3, while it brews more.

Van Winkle's oldest bourbon ever is coming, but it will cost you

A 25-year-old bottling of Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon is coming soon.

Buffalo Trace Distillery, which makes Old Rip Van Winkle, Pappy Van Winkle and other bourbons, will release 710 bottles of this product in April, according to a news release. This bourbon will be two years older than the hard-to-come-by Pappy Van Winkle 23-year-old bourbon that often gets bourbon fans' blood pumping.

Greater Cincinnati crowdfunded brewery ready to sell first suds

A Greater Cincinnati brewery, the first in the United States to qualify for crowdfunding under a new section of federal law, will sell its beer to the public for the first time this weekend.

Ludlow-based Bircus Brewing Co. will have five pilot styles of beer brewed in 5-gallon batches available 10 a.m.-5 p.m. March 18 as part of Shop Ludlow Day. The brewery and taproom are still under construction, so pouring will take place on the outdoor patio adjacent to the building at 326 Elm St.

^I was at an event a few weeks ago put on by the Cincinnati Chapter of the Congress for the New Urbanism talking about how breweries are catalysts for neighborhood redevelopment, and they were one of the speakers. They talked about the Kickstarter, and said it acted more as a vehicle to get people excited for the brewery, have a sense of ownership in the business, and get their name out there. I believe he stated that they netted under $30k for the Kickstarter after fees and merchandise items were purchased. They raised $71k on Kickstarter. They basically said the project would have happened without it, but they got to do a few extra things with the added money and it built hype for them. But I don't think you could call them a crowdfunded brewery in the sense that that's how they made it work.

Braxton Brewing opening a second location to focus on innovation

Covington's Braxton Brewing is announcing a second location on the eve of its second anniversary to focus on new craft beer styles.

The brewery is opening the Braxton Labs as a brewery and taproom inside of Party Source in Bellevue, taking over the space that Ei8ht Ball Brewing is vacating on April 1. Braxton is shooting to be open in the new Labs space by this summer.

This is a great move IMO. It really solidifies Braxton as Northern Kentucky's craft beer brand, with their big brewery & tap room in Covington and this smaller brewery & tap room inside Party Source in Bellevue.

Owners reveal plans to build Greater Cincinnati brewery

A new Greater Cincinnati brewery is in the works in Deerfield Township, the Enquirer reports.

Owners Jennifer Meissner, Justin Neff and Daniel Schmerr are planning to build Sonder Brewing on Duke Boulevard behind Procter & Gamble Co.’s Mason-Montgomery Road campus. They plan to turn the vacant 6.5-acre lot into a two-floor, brick-and-stone brewery with a taproom, restaurant, patios and outdoor activities that will open in the late fall. The group plans to close on the property in the next week or two and begin construction within six weeks.

Samuel Adams debuts Cincinnati beer

Samuel Adams has released a beer celebrating Cincinnati that will only be available in the Tri-State.

Samuel Adams 513 is a classically dry-hopped American lager that blends a malty backbone with bright hop notes. It has a biscuity aroma and rich malt forward flavor that finishes with a citrusy note and spicy bitterness.

Here's when downtown's first distillery opens

The first distillery to operate in downtown Cincinnati will open before the end of the month.

Northside Distilling, which opened up shop in its eponymous neighborhood in 2014, will host a grand opening for its downtown operation at 922 Race St. on April 29. It will maintain its original location in Northside, but that will be geared toward experimental distilling and aging the distillery's bourbon.

Yet another brewery...but I actually know these guys.  One of these guys is my uncle's brother and I've played in bands with him a bit.  They're all pretty big into Neil Young and The Grateful Dead.
