Si Señor Opens Third Location on the Scioto Mile

Though it was a quiet one, Si Señor celebrated the opening of their newest location in August. Following the restaurant’s Grandview debut, Si Señor has set up shop in the old Columbia Gas building at 200 Civic Center Drive, and it’s been catering to the needs of the building’s office workers.

The process started about a year ago, when Perez was approached by the building’s owners, Robert Meyers and partners.

Beloved Ohio burger joint lines up a Dublin-area spot

Swensons might be a city approval away from its first Columbus restaurant.

The beloved Akron-based fast-food restaurant has stated its interest in the Central Ohio market before and rumors heat up every now and then about its potential arrival as someone’s cousin’s mother says their uncle’s buddy is a real estate agent and someone from Swensons is most definitely probably looking at a space in town.

Kilwins Chocolate Shop Franchise Makes Columbus Debut

The newest Bridge Park tenant is pretty sweet. Kilwins, a franchise started by two local entrepreneurs, Stephanie Malas and her husband Ernie Malas, will make its Central Ohio debut this Friday, December 8. The chocolate and ice cream shop has more than 100 other locations nationwide. This one in Dublin will be Kilwins’ second in Ohio.

“We first discovered Kilwins probably 15 years ago,” said Stephanie Malas, Kilwins co-owner. “My family vacations a lot in Fort Lauderdale. My husband and I would take the kids there. I just remember we were really enticed by the sweet smell of waffle cone.”

Duck Donuts Opens in Dublin

After an Ohio debut last December in Westerville, North Carolina-based Duck Donuts celebrated a grand opening in Dublin last Saturday at 7717 Sawmill Rd. The build-your-own donut shop starts guests off with a plain vanilla donut and offers a variety of icings, toppings and drizzles to finish it off. Guests can then watch as their donut is made to order.

Swensons update: City votes on Sawmill site

Though Swensons Drive-In owners aren't talking, the city of Columbus has had its say.

As first reported by Columbus Business First, the Akron-based chain has its sights on a Central Ohio spot, according to documents filed with the city. It appears to be considering 7490 Sawmill Road near Dublin as its first Columbus-area restaurant.

Columbus City Council Monday night approved the development plan for that site, including allowing for 75 parking spaces despite a 69-space requirement for that property.

Mr. Hero is expanding in Columbus – here are the first 2 sites

Swensons Drive-In isn’t the only northeast Ohio chain with an eye on Central Ohio.

Middlesburg Heights-based Mr. Hero, which once had a handful restaurants around Columbus but has been at just a single unit since 2000, has a pair of new eateries opening with more expected.

“There are 111 (Mr. Heros) north of Mansfield and just one south,” said Bryan Savage, broker/owner of Savage Real Estate who is spearheading the chain’s hunt for real estate in Central Ohio.

Short North getting a new restaurant and rooftop bar

A Cleveland restaurateur is bringing a pair of ventures to the Short North.

Crawford Hoying announced on Monday that TownHall and a still-to-be-named second restaurant will be part of its development at 800 N. High St. in the popular Columbus neighborhood.

That site is the former Haiku restaurant site, which closed in 2016. Also part of the project is a 116-room Moxy Hotel by Marriott and 46,000 square feet of Class A office space.

Cameron Mitchell Announces Plans for Food Hall Concept inside The Budd Dairy Building

Looks like the food hall concept is taking off in Columbus. Cameron Mitchell Restaurants announced their plans this morning for a food hall that’ll occupy The Budd Dairy building in Italian Village. Hosting between eight and 10 “entrepreneurial, chef-driven restaurant concepts,” The Budd Dairy Food Hall will make the second concept of its kind to open in the city. It’s scheduled to open late this year.

“Food halls are among the most popular, innovative ways to allow dining consumers to actively engage in their food experience, and the Budd Dairy Food Hall will be the first of this scale in the region,” said Steve Weis, CMR vice president of development, in a press release. “By providing in one venue an opportunity for guests to choose among multiple, artisan food shops, instead of choosing just one restaurant, and then combining it with a strong beverage program; entertainment; and flexible, on-trend spaces to enjoy food and drink; the food hall will be a vibrant destination for residents and visitors alike.”

Essentially, but with alcohol and mostly locally-owned tenants. So like a food court but cool. All of the core concepts that made malls successful in the past still hold true. Clustering, businesses on both sides, people moving slowly, fun... it's just that spending has shifted away from national brands and logo wear to other things.

Italian Gastropub “The Osteria” Launching in Olde Towne East

Urban winery Camelot Cellars will officially relaunch its restaurant space in March with a rebrand that that will turn the focus toward Italian cuisine. The restaurant, dubbed “The Osteria,” is a partnership between Camelot owner Janine Aquino and Ed Bisconti of Borgata Pizza Café.

“As the Camelot brand expands and has its wines in over 200 stores throughout Ohio, it was time to take on a partner for the food side, so I could focus more on production, customer focused wine-making classes and private parties,” stated Aquino.

its quite a craze. food halls have been in europe and asia for quite awhile, but have been making their way over here the last few years. its not about mall food court chains though, its supposed to be independents or maybe spinoffs and mini-chain outposts.

the good thing about them is you can try a lot of different things and the rents are low, so start ups are encouraged. the bad thing is they have you over a barrel once you walk in, so prices tend to be higher than they should be. also, im not sure how well they are inspected.

here is something about some of the ny food halls:

while it would seem like a great idea, i find them expensive and very underwhelming out here. edit: i meant the new food halls, not the old ethnic ones.
