Here is a pic taken from GABP, standing on the 400 level at "the notch" or whatever the open slice is called.  (taken with my camera phone).

Yep, it is called the "Notch"  It appears to be a good spot to take photos.  I must get to the notch with my tripod when it is getting dusk.

Don't worry, I was only referring to the speed with which the major projects seem to be progressing.  No Cincinnati bashing intended. :-)

You guys missed this article:

City gains 230 insurance jobs
Western & Southern bringing unit from Ky.

By James McNair
Enquirer staff writer

Western & Southern Financial Group, one of the bastions of Cincinnati's downtown business scene, said Wednesday it is bringing 230 jobs from Louisville.

Unlike other corporations that have held out for financial aid in exchange for adding jobs or remaining in Cincinnati, Western & Southern is supplementing its 1,600-person local payroll without public assistance.

"We have not applied for any," company spokesman Herb Brown. "We didn't feel we needed it at this time."

The additions were prompted by the parent company's decision to relocate its Integrity Life Insurance subsidiary from Louisville Chief executive John Barrett said the parent company will save an undisclosed amount by consolidating back-office and sales-support functions with other business units in Cincinnati.

Sounds like they've downsized their plans a bit for Phase II, only 35 stories. But, I'll happy with the first floor retail they're adding.

I find it hard to believe that Western & Southern won't be moving their offices there when it's all said and done. Regarding the actual construction, are the glass panels also the interior walls of the building? I might not be saying it right, but what separates the panels from the interior space, if any.

I dont find it hard to believe W&S will move their offices once the building is finished. They are building Class A office space. The 300 jobs they are moving from Louisiville are back office functions. You do not put back office workers in class A office space, it is uneconomical. W&S can make a lot more money renting out their building to various outside tenants who are willing to pay top dollar and using cheaper office space for themselves. if you want a prime example of this look at the big banks in town. Both 5/3 and USBank own their buildings yet they have the majority of their operations staff scattered throughout various sites around the city because they make more money leasing the building than using it themselves. In fact, the floors that both banks occupy are the lower floors which usually rent cheaper than the higher floors with a view.

I still find it a bit surreal that the Queen City Club isn't parting with any of their land.  It appears as though another whole 303 Broadway could fit between itself and the old building.  In New York City you see newer buildings with L or T or more complicated footprints filling spaces like that, so maybe there is some long-term plan for that parking lot.

From the 8/2/05 Cincinnati Post:

New downtown office tower lands first tenant
By Greg Paeth
Post staff reporter

Downtown Cincinnati's first new office tower to be built in nearly 14 years has its first tenant.

IFS Financial Service and three of its subsidiaries will move out of about 55,000 square feet in the Atrium II at 221 E. Fourth St. and moving about two blocks to Queen City Square at 303 Broadway, a 16-story office tower still under construction.

The new building - and the four companies - are all owned by Western & Southern Financial Group, the Cincinnati-based financial services firm.

IFS Financial, Touchstone Investments, W&S Financial Group Distributors and Integrated Fund Distributors will begin moving in later this year as soon as the building is completed, said Herb Brown, a Western & Southern vice president.

so i forget...is western and southern planning on moving into the new space whether it be phase one or phase two?  i understand that these companies are owned by them, but i guess i never understood if moving themself was in the plan or not.

I dont think W&S plans to make either phase its corporate HQ. Who knows though. If they do, I dont think it will take up a huge amount of space maybe a couple of floors similar to the way Ashland leases space in Rivercenter. It really would not make too much sense nowadays to consolidate everyone in a brand new class A office building when they can fetch more on the open market in rent

Bump... Queen City Square thread, I fear that you might now be dead.

Anything new on this?  Someone said at one point they were moving people out of the W&S garage for Phase II?
