^ Matt Zone appears to be positioning himself for a run in the next election.  I think if FJ had stepped aside he would've run now.  It's a sham because I think Zone would be a good candidate.

Looks like the Cleveland Mayoral race may be one of the most entertaining in a while

I watched it and didn't come away with much, other than I'm a little more intrigued in Kilo.   I didn't know he was a Republican and he does seem focused on job creation and neighborhoods through attracting business here nationally.   I'll definitely do a bit more homework on him.  Maybe it's time for a GOP mayor again ala Voinovich.

I watched it as well and found E Rocc's brother's booze-inspired assessment pretty spot-on.  Overall, I though Frank did better than expected (and he clearly "won" if any one can win a debate). City Club gave him the final word of the day (the last person of 9 to make his 90-second closing remarks) which I thought was strategic (for Jackson's benefit) or perhaps respectful of the office. Patmon did a good dramatic performance, though not a lot of depth. Brewer was more articulate and deep than I was expecting. No foul language. Chrostowski was interesting--and said--not sure if true--that he's the only one with real plans for job, for tech, and for other things. No surprises or anything interesting from Zack or Johnson, though Johnson acted outraged about lead in homes and someone called him on it for having done nothing about it being a councilman and is only now "concerned" because of the election. Madalone seemed weak as did Smith. Kilo didn't seem very sincere or qualified either. It was a good watch--all should see it. Here's the link:

"Brandon Chrostowski wrote an editorial piece in opposition to the tax deal Cleveland schools is considering for the NuCLEus construction project Stark Enterprises proposes to build near Quicken Loans Arena."

http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2017/08/clevelands_mayoral_candidates_1.html

Though the PD mentions this, they don't provide a link to it (but provide a link to something else.)

If true, he just lost a bunch of points with me.

I definitely disagree. Watch his speech at the City Club from a few weeks ago. Plus, his being President of the National League of Cities also speaks to higher ambition I think

zone won't run for mayor.  he's unknown on the east side and he's been on council forever.  The side gig he's got is just something else to focus on.  he's probably ready to start pulling a pension considering how long he's been a councilman.  He & his wife are empty nesters now.  He travels & plays golf.  Being a mayor is a lot of work

On Monday Jun 26, 2017 I had the opportunity to attend the Mayoral Forum
sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Progressive Caucus and the Ward 14
Democratic Club at the VFW on West 61st Street in Clark-Fulton.
Iíve since attended most of the other forums as well.

Of all the candidates present at the event the one that caught my attention
was former East Cleveland Mayor Eric Brewer.   He was the only one who
appeared to have a true grasp of the issues concerning Cleveland combined
with a positive track record to validate his claims.   He comes across as
someone who chooses to be a statesman rather than a politician. This combined
with his intelligence, charisma and burning desire to serve the citizens of
Cleveland makes him the ideal successor to soon to be former Mayor Frank
Jackson.  Frankly, he is the only candidate taking this election seriously.

Contrary to what the media and his opponents would like the public to believe
Eric only appears to grow angry at two things.  One, when he is falsely accused
of something and two, with the rampant injustice that pervades the City of Cleveland.
Just as with Eric I am not satisfied with the performance of the Cleveland Schools
and its inability to teach our children the basics of reading, writing, speaking and
listening.  I am not satisfied with the anemic job growth in Cleveland  especially
the blown opportunity of failing to land the Amazon Fulfillment Center which
ended up in North Randal.   I am not satisfied with the lack of discipline and
training in our police department resulting in the unnecessary deaths of Cleveland
citizens when it clearly could have been prevented.  I am not satisfied when
Cleveland is ranked at the top of the list in poverty while crime is rampant in
our city.  I am not satisfied with the catering to owners of sports teams by
Cleveland officials when they know in their own conscience it is the wrong thing
to do.

I believe it is time to get the City of Cleveland moving again.   We have stagnated
for the last 12 years under a political philosophy of "it is what it is".   Never let
it be said that this was the time the tide ran out on Cleveland but rather was the
time the tide finally came in.  Eric Brewer is that tide and represents the pro-active
change Cleveland needs during these challenging times.   Right now Cleveland is
a ship without a captain {and a rudder as well}.  Eric Brewer will be that captain
if voters make the right choice on September 12, 2017 {my 54th birthday}.

Brewer's even a worse choice than Jackson.

He wrecked East Cleveland further, he would make the cop's jobs much tougher and throw them under the bus at any excuse (but not hire any more), and he's so "out there" he makes excuses for ISIS burning a Jordanian pilot.

No, thanks.

I said before the election, he's beatable if he gets less than 40%.  He got 38.7%.   Reed and Johnson combined for 37.3%.

It will be tough but it's doable.

I don't Jackson will have an issue for the general election.  Given these choices and a higher turnout, I think most will take the safe (if not anemic) bet for (In)Action Jackson.

I agree with this assessment.   The general will depend on turnout.   I think high turnout favors Jackson.

Precincts: 332 / 332 (100% reporting)

 * Frank Jackson
12,699 (39%)

Zack Reed  7,195 (22%)

Jeff Johnson 5,042 (15%)

Brandon Chrostowski 3,112 (9%)

Robert Kilo 1,725 (5%)

Tony Madalone 1,515 (5%)

Bill Patmon 883 (3%)

Eric Brewer 479 (1%)

Dyrone Smith 130 (0%)

-- Write-In 46 (0%)

Camry Kincaid 0 (0%)

http://elections.tegna-media.com/election/iframe/WKYC/400

Wow...my favorite candidate who has probably already done more for Cleveland than any of the others combined, barely got more votes than the 3000 signatures required just to run for mayor.

Camry Kincaid... zero votes. That is hilarious! I had no idea who that was. I googled it and only his dumb @ss Facebook page comes up. Aren't you at least allowed to vote for yourself? He was apparently too lazy to even vote for himself.

Brandon actually did much better than I thought he would.  It's not a bad showing for someone without a politically recognizable name in Cleveland.

Eh, I'm not sure why people are so gaga over Chrostowski.  I get it, he's doing a good thing with his restaurant, but when I tried to explain what he's doing to a friend who's been in the restaurant biz for 20+ years- "he hires and trains felons to work in restaurants", my friend said "that's what we all do in the restaurant biz."  True, sir.  The rest seems like the same platitudes from all the other candidates.

I liked Tony but I knew that wasn't actually possible.  I'm surprised Kilo beat him, but probably shouldn't have been.   TM was trying to run a business while campaiging, plus he's 32, so he was on his phone a lot.   Technophobes held this against him.

There's only one libertarian conservative that could make it a contest in Cleveland and he lives in LA.

Jackson, Reed square off in Cleveland mayoral debate
By JAY MILLER
3-4 minutes

It was incumbent Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson's pledge to complete what he's started if voters will give him an unprecedented fourth term versus challenger Zack Reed's promise to bring a safer city that is thriving with jobs and economic opportunities.

The two squared off at the only debate between the two candidates facing off Nov. 7 in the election to be mayor of the city of Cleveland.

The debate was held Thursday, Oct. 19, at the City Club of Cleveland. It was moderated by Rick Jackson of WCPN public radio and WVIZ-TV.
