^ one entrance? i dont think that would even be legal. certainly not safe.

there is a main entrance on w34th st -- there is another one closer to the javits on w35th. i think that's it, but not sure. i found something showing them both here:

The most amazing project in the US today. 17 million square feet! Basically a small city being built.

per the post, a hy milestone -- the coach tower tops off today

The new Hudson Yards station is scooping up business

By Steve Cuozzo
October 5, 2015 | 11:21pm

Now that the No. 7 line Hudson Yards station is open, New Yorkers with only a dim idea of what’s going on there have no excuse not to check it out.
Projects by several developers are in the works in the area. But Related Companies’ 28-acre site above a rail yard between 10th and 11th avenues and West 30th and 34th streets is the big kahuna.

On Wednesday, Related and partner Oxford Properties Group will top off 10 Hudson Yards, the 1.75 million-square-foot, 52-story tower at the site’s southeast corner. The ceremony follows the signing of the skyscraper’s latest tenant, social media-oriented digital agency VaynerMedia, which will move from Park Avenue South. The deal was done for Related by CBRE’s Bob Alexander and by Stephen Winter in-house.

The 88,000-square-foot lease leaves only 15 percent of space left at 10 Hudson Yards, which earlier signed Coach, L’Oréal USA and software engineering firm SAP. The building is scheduled to open early in 2016.

Meanwhile, Related/Oxford’s taller and larger 30 Hudson Yards is also under way. Time Warner has committed to 1.6 million square feet of a total 2.6 million square feet, and Related says they’re in “advanced negotiations” for the rest of the tower, to open in 2019.

At 55 Hudson Yards at 11th Avenue and 30th Street — where Related has partnered with Japan’s Mitsui Fudosan — law firm Boies Schiller & Flexner took 83,000 square feet of a total 1.3 million feet. Move-in is set for 2018.
The site will also be home to Related’s shopping and restaurant complex, where Neiman Marcus and a Thomas Keller restaurant are expected to open in 2018.

hudson yards   1/22/17

this is good of a time as any to mark the progress on this enormous and complicated development area as phase one is halfway done.

most of it is from this past friday when i walked around after work.

i added a few older shots for contrast.

unfortunately it was a crappy weather day and i was losing the light -- best i could do.

this is the brookfield one manhattan west tower going up over the eastern hudson railyards -
it’s at 9th av between w32-33sts

right off the bat, it’s pretty cool to catch a lift!

401 w31st, the first manhattan west residential tower -- looks to be about done

a peek inside the gate

to the west is the hideous associated press bldg --
it was reclad and got a name change to 5 manhattan west --
so now only looks glassy & strange --

some of it is built over a lincoln tunnel entrance

just west of that and across 10th av is the related hudson yards site and mall here at w31st

the southern end coach tower base at w30st & dyer ave

a pano of all of related’s hy along 10th ave

i think this shows the mall better

this is the northeast corner of the 30hy at w33st

1296’ - but words cannot describe how utterly massive this bldg is, it dwarfs the coach tower

crocodile tears for the drive-through mcdonalds just north at sw 10th av/34st? --
it’s a goner…related is going to build 985’ tall 50hy on this corner

a marriott going up nearby at 361 w34st -- hy spinoff

this is 55hy going up west behind the new subway station & just north of hudson yards

another one just to the south of 55hy is going up over the railyard itself - it’s 35hy

flashback earlier view from around here from last spring i think

a closeup look at the big boy so far, 30hy, from the little park around the 7 train station

up & down they go -- it was certainly active

looking in the railyard decking pit -- i think this might be for the vessel aka vertical adult hamster run staircases to nowhere corporate art sculpture thingy

the other northern 7 subway entrance, is still closed up -
i think that’s tied up in moinian’s 3 hudson blvd tower construction & opening

more of 55hy - related is also the developer here as it is for the yards itself

 a hoist on 55hy

30hy again from another angle

flashback -- some changes on 30hy since then!

i stood on some park chairs to look over the fence for a peek at the 3 hudson blvd tower pit

this is what the second subway entrance is supposed to look like, basically just like the first

another spinoff development going up to the northeast at w36st - i dk what, looks like res apts

now walking around 55hy and heading south on 11th ave

from standing in front of the javits center, this is a pano looking east all along 11th ave

back to 55hy

looking and walking south along 11th ave here -- in front of 35hy

a glance back

here at the southern 11th ave/w30st corner of hudson yards is the culture shed & 15hy

coach tower comes back into view -- technically it’s 10hy

this is a similar flashback view from last summer i think

and both of these are from even earlier

a look back again at 55hy, 35hy & 30hy

looking east here -- you can see the new mall across what will be the open public square park

back for a look over at 15hy fka the corset -
too bad they changed the design - the ‘knitted’ corset was my favorite of all of these

looking east along the southern end of hudson yards & the highline at w30st at street level

up on the highline park -- looking north along 11th ave

here are a couple earlier views from there -- from summer i think

pieces of the vessel, the huge public square sculpture you can climb on -- have arrived

a little corporate courtyard to enter the coach tower via the highline has opened

a look west from the coach tower’s courtyard at 15hy

these are a bit earlier views from the coach courtyard -- i went the day it first opened

***note there is no action on the western end of hudson yards bet 11-12avs & w30-34st as yet. that is phase two, which will start in 2020. it’s supposed to be 7 residential towers, one office tower and a public school. phase two is actually where related, the developer, will finally recoup their money. as you can see, phase one looks on point to wrap up in 2019.***

edit -- here is a map of everything inside the hy, but its kind silly as so much is going on all around it as well:

**so that’s what’s up around the hudson yards at the moment -- stay tuned it’s changing fast!**

it seems 15 hy is selling very well - if you are wondering about these apts here is an interesting article about that:

this render is what it used to look like earlier in its original version when it was 'the corset'

Although it's exciting to stroll over after work and check on the progress of this massive development, Vessel is the part I'm most excited for. I'm a huge fan of weird, large, interactive, functional pieces of public art. And being elevated above the plaza among the tallest cluster of towers in Manhattan other than the WTC will be pretty spectacular. I'm really hoping the 2018 opening date is accurate. The pieces arrived recently so it should start rising in the near future.

yes most of the pieces are sitting in the staging area on the western end of the hy -- i'll try to get a better pic of that sometime than the one i posted above.

per nyyimby -- it looks like the vessel foundation base is ready for it:

from walking around hy a lot and watching the now rapid pace of everything going up i would certainly say its all on time to open in 2019, including the public square park and the vessel.

I can't get over how massive 30 HY is going to be. It's a monster of a building. 10 HY is visible from all over the city and it's only 878' tall vs. 30 HY's 1,296'. I can't even imagine how that'll look. Basically half again as big with a massive floor plate for much of the building. It's going to be about 83% of the area of 1 WTC which is craziness.

I can't wait for the outdoor observation deck cantilevered off 30 HY. That's going to be an amazing experience.

15 HY is a good looking tower, but it was so unique when it was still The Corset. The value engineering that occurred still resulted in a unique massing, but the reasoning is lost. Before it had an elegance that was really nice.

despite being forbes - this is a nice article from last spring after the coach tower opening that briefly summarized about everything you might want to know about related's hudson yards development (minus the rest of the spinoff stuff going on all around it):

NHL to move headquarters to Hudson Yards in Manhattan

By Ivan Pereira   ivan.pereira@amny.com December 7, 2016

The NHL is making a power play to the west side.

The league announced Wednesday that it will move its headquarters from Rockefeller Center to Hudson Yards in 2019.

It will take 160,000 square feet on five floors and open the NHL shop on the retail ground floor at One Manhattan West at the corner of 33rd Street and Ninth Avenue.

“The growth and momentum of our game and our business require a state-of-the-art facility; with its terrific amenities, including an NHL store, our new building will be that and more,” NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said in a statement.

The 67-story tower is 40% leased with other tenants including its anchor tenant, the legal services group Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. It is expected to open sometime in the third quarter of 2019.

Earlier this year, Hudson Yards opened its first tower, 10 Hudson Yards, which is the new home of Coach. The 26-acre development, which includes a school, residential and commercial buildings and three parks, is expected to be complete in 2025.

per curbed, it looks like the massive 2.6M sq ft 30hy is catching up in height to the coach tower.

it should pass it by this summer.

also, the lower rise hy mall building is putting in escalators and the like, so its coming along pretty quickly now.

The Vessel is the most exciting part of the project to me. As much as I'm loving covering a giant hole in the fabric of Manhattan with gigantic buildings, public space, new subway station, etc. this centerpiece is going to offer the everyday person something to do there. And climbing to its top will provide some really interesting vantage points of the new neighborhood.

yeah the vessel and the completion of the highline park stub are what i am most looking forward to as of now. the view platform on top of the mammoth 30 hy tower will be nice too.

otherwise it all seems pretty sterile.

no doubt there will be some kind of other amenities when they get to the western section of the hy. at least nice park and courtyard areas as that will be mostly residential. we'll see.

I think overall it'll feel pretty lively once finished. It's a massive challenge though to achieve a comfortable feeling with only massive buildings. It's the reason the rest of Manhattan works so well. There's a solid 2-15 story base to the island that grounds the massive towers. When you ONLY have massive towers it's much harder.

I'm also super excited to watch the Culture Shed slide in and out of its spot. Such an interesting feature. And it's massive. I knew it was huge but seeing it in person has really changed my understanding of its scale. It's an entire building that slides on rails. Pretty awesome.

^ yeah i wonder what they are going to do with that? maybe it will be like blossom, a summer site for the orchestra? pop shows? plays? who knows, but that will be a very nice and unusual public facility to have too. i guess i shouldnt write off the new shopping mall either lol. if some of the towers can add indoor-outdoor cafes or something like that into the park area perimeter, and not just chi-chi stuff, no doubt it will make the experience of being in there more comfortable and less dystopic.
