Mt adams business district will definitiely transition soon to very a small and quaint sleepy area.

The public transportation to get to mt Adams sucks. Barely anywhere to park. Otr also fills many of the nightlife voids and has many parking options and easier to get to if you are  college student at uc.

Mt Adams needs a serious revamp of its neighborhood if it wants to be a destination again...it’s still in this mindset of catering to suburbans who were once upon a time to afraid to travel and party downtown.
I'm not worried about the changes. Even if Mt Adams becomes less of a "destination" for partiers, it will continue to be desirable. Mt Adams real estate is still among the most expensive in the city, per square foot. It has great views, beautiful architecture, is adjacent to Eden Park, and downtown. It is landlocked and so it will remain relatively expensive. Restaurants will come and go. The Celestial just seemed like it had stopped trying. As Jim pointed out, its decor was a bit... dated. They started an Instagram account in 2016, posted 6 photos, then abandoned it: https://www.instagram.com/celestial_cincy/
The restaurant industry is cut throat. Especially at the high end, you can't survive (paying expensive rent, high staffing costs) unless you're able to stand out in the field of high end restaurants.

Active-lifestyle restaurant opening first Cincinnati location

An active-lifestyle restaurant that specializes in grain, broth and green bowls is opening its first Cincinnati location at Hyde Park Plaza.

CoreLife Eatery, a Syracuse, N.Y.-based restaurant chain with 40 locations around the U.S., is opening its first Cincinnati location on July 20 at 3804 Paxton Ave. The company has one other area location in Florence.

I think Mount Adams is perfectly fine. I use to live in OTR, and guess what? I was annoyed with the amount of loud music, and lack of residential parking. I decided to move to Mount Adams and havent looked back. Its a great community with a strong neighborhood council. The bars and restaurants up here are way past their prime. No reason why a couple smaller places wont stay open along with the bank and UDF. There are alot of folks like me who enjoy walking downtown, river, or eden park easily, but being out of the entertainment zones of the banks or OTR.

I live in Highland Tower and the Celestial was a dump, even the residents with money in the building refused to eat in the restaurant. It could have survived had regular maintenance and upkeep been done. N

The last time I was in The Celestial was about four years ago.  It barely seemed open for business.

A lot of the places in Mt. Adams seem like they haven't been updated since the 80s or 90s, because they haven't been. You have to keep in mind that Mt. Adams used to be a very blue collar place and it wasn't until Towne Properties start developing the neighborhood that you started getting all sorts of fancy restaurants and expensive condos. Now that it's a much more high end neighborhood, I'm sure many of the new residents are quite happy that it's no longer the heart of Cincinnati's club scene.

I hope it can be renovated and turned back into a nice restaurant. It has such a great view, and Mt. Adams could use a few good restaurants, especially given the recent closures.

The space will be operated by Funky's Catering, which is the same company that operates The Transept in OTR. So I think they will do a good job with it.

Longtime Montgomery chef opening ramen joint in OTR

The chef of a longtime Montgomery Japanese restaurant is bringing traditional ramen to the heart of Over-the-Rhine with a new restaurant opening next month.

Han Lin, who has operated Mei Japanese Restaurant in Montgomery for 18 years, is opening Zundo Ramen & Donburi at 220 W. 12th St. in Over-the-Rhine, next to Queen City Radio, in August. An opening date has not been set.

I love yuppiefied ramen as much as the next person, but I still think a late night sub-$10 gyudon shop would make a killing... well, anywhere.

Here's when Cilantro makes its triumphant return with original owner

Cilantro Vietnamese Restaurant, which has had a tumultuous year, closing and reconcepting before closing again, is reopening soon under its original owner.

Cilantro plans to reopen at 235 W. McMillan St. on July 16. It is reopening under Darren Phan, who sold the restaurant in April 2017.

I think it's a pretty powerful sign when you see long time suburban chefs recognize the revitalized dining scene of OTR.

Ironically, I checked the Kroger near me at Austin Landing and didn't see any metts (and I was lookin' too!).  Where did you find them around here aside from Carillon that I can try?  I'm intrigued now...like when @taestell took me to my first creamy whip!

Y'know, I can't think of anywhere specific, and I might just be imagining I have seen them in Dayton stores since I've seen them at Carillon. I usually just get them from butchers in Cincy.

The Germanfest Picnic website says they will have metts:
http://www.daytongermanclub.org/?q=german-picnic

Ok, I just spent too long searching the internet for butchers and such in Dayton that have them. This is such a weird phenomenon, because people who know what they are (mostly native Cincinnatians, I guess) think it is a typical German style of sausage, like Bratwurst, that you could find in a lot of different places, if not virtually everywhere. But even just up the road in Dayton there is hardly a trace of them.

Spotted at Wayne Ave. Kroger

In like '02 I was sitting in the top section of the Shoemaker Center reading the program and minding my business during the halftime show of a UC basketball game when I suddenly got hit in the face with a t-shirt shot out of one of those cannon things. I had no idea they could reach the upper decks. Anyways, it was a UC themed cheddar mett t-shirt lol. That's as close as I've ever gotten to a cheddar mett.

Adding cheese to things is the Cincinnati way (pun intended).

Award-winning cupcake bakery among four new tenants at Liberty Center

A cupcake shop famous in New York and Chicago is one of four new retailers that have signed on to locate at Liberty Center just north of Cincinnati.

The $350 million mixed-used development in Liberty Township, just off Interstate 75, announced the four tenants on Wednesday. They are expected to open this summer with exact dates to be finalized. The tenants are:

Here's when a Latin American restaurant will bring Caribbean fare to OTR

Over-the-Rhine's newest restaurant specializes in Latin American fare with a festive Caribbean twist.

Maize is set to open at 1438 Race St. in the former ZBGB Gourmet Burgers and Bar space on Saturday, July 14. It's the creation of former Procter & Gamble logistics and financial coordinator turned marketer Angel Batista and Queen City Radio co-founder Louisa Reckman.

"We have set out with a mission to bring the Latin American experience to Cincinnati," Batista told me. "The name Maize comes from that background of truly authentic Latin American cooking, with corn as its main essence."

The bar made from old barrels and the Rookwood tile backsplash are really cool and really well executed. But the rest of the space has way too much white drywall.
