I've pointed out before that Dayton has 3 IKEAs that are all closer to Dayton than either of the two IKEAs within driving distance of Cleveland. I got ignored by the Clevelanders.

Iím sure you werenít ignored; the other Clevelanders were too upset to reply;)

Northside bistro closes after five years

A popular Northside restaurant and bistro concept that focused on craft cocktails, wines and seasonal dishes is no longer in business.

Bistro Grace, owned and operated by Suzanne McGarry, closed its doors on May 31. An employee answering the phone at the Hamilton, McGarry's other Northside restaurant, confirmed the closure.

I know this is lame, but I am so excited Coca-Cola is coming back to Frisch's in September. I can finally get my cherry coke on chewy ice again. The simple things...

Here's when downtown's newest gastropub and bakery opens

Downtown's newest gastropub, with an attached bakery window, is opening this week.

Crown Republic Gastropub, at 720 Sycamore St. on the ground floor of the Eighth and Sycamore development, is hosting its grand opening on Wednesday, June 20, but Cincinnati can get a tasty preview starting today: the attached bakery window housing Fat Ben's Bakery is already open and serving up pastries and breakfast items.

Peek inside the Banks' newest restaurant

A new Nashville hot-chicken restaurant will open Wednesday at the Banks. It's the second location in Greater Cincinnati for Louisville-based Joellaís Hot Chicken.

The 30-year-old style of chicken has six different degrees of heat depending on what the customer wants.

I've tried Aladdin twice. They keep it freezing cold in there and they can't make a decent salad.  Nice space, plenty of seating, but don't think the quality is high enough considering the competition in OTR.

Maybe it's owed by Yum! or White Castle... that would explain why it's freezing inside.

My girlfriend and I have eaten there probably 3 or 4 times since they opened and have had good experiences. To us, it is not competition with Vine Street, it is a basic neighborhood restaurant where we can get a quick, healthy, inexpensive meal on a weeknight, which is not something that most of the Vine Street restaurants excel at. We would eat at The Royal a lot more (their grain bowls are great) but they are currently only open for weekday lunches, plus late night weekend hours to serve the bar crowds. (In other words, they are not open for weeknight dinners or weekend lunches.)

Don't they have a nicely shaded patio out back? Seems like that is a good option if the air conditioned inside is too cold.

Is it closing when he retires? I haven't been there in awhile but it's always ranked pretty highly on my list of lunch buffets. I'll have to remember to swing by again.

Speaking of Vine Street restaurants, I recently ate at Bakersfield and noticed that they no longer give you free salsa at the table. You can either order chips & salsa for $4, or order chips & guac for $6 and add salsa for an additional $1. It also comes in a bowl now instead of bottles, which I liked because it made it easy to add squeeze of salsa onto your tacos if you wanted a little extra spice. Yes, I realize making this complaint makes me sound like Dusty Rhodes, but it seems odd that an already somewhat expensive restaurant needs to gouge each table for a few extra dollars.

Yep, they were looking for buyers if anyone wanted to keep it going but not sure they found any. https://www.facebook.com/IsadoresPizzeria/

Eh, it's just like restaurants charging for bread, I think. It seems like a small cost, but I'm sure it adds up. At places like Nada or Bakersfield I would expect to pay for chips and salsa. The cheaper, family owned places (which unfortunately seem to mostly locate in strip malls for some reason) are the places I expect free chips and salsa at. Places like that spot in Hyde Park Plaza, or maybe even the place on Vine and 8th...blanking on the name.

They got rid of the squeeze bottles of salsa altogether? That is a downgrade.

Is the buffet only at lunch?  I've never been there, but would like to check it out before they close.

Holtman's Donuts coming to Oakley

A Cincinnati favorite is opening its fifth location in one of Cincinnati's hottest neighborhoods.

Holtman's Donuts has signed a lease to open a donut bakery at 3450 Madison Road in Oakley with the goal of being opened by the middle of 2019.

Katie Willing, who owns that location with her husband, Danny Plazarin, along with the bakery's Over-the-Rhine and West Chester spots said they had looked at Oakley before opening in West Chester in 2016 at the Streets of West Chester but hadn't found the right spot until now.
