^ Where exactly? The only vacant land near that intersection is adjacent to Tremont Taphouse. I heard they were planning to expand when they bought and demolished the house south of their parking lot, but it's only served as additional parking since then. I just assumed the expansion rumor was incorrect.

Does anyone know what is going in at Starkweather and Scranton.  It looks like something being constructed by Scalish Brothers but I cannot find any information on their site.

Do you mean kennilworth and scranton?

Scalish is renovating a great looking brick Federal on that corner. I'm very excited to see what the finished result is there.
You have to hand it to those guys considering they find a way to partially demo masonry and rebuild it while other developers only seem to be able to demolish the entire building and squeeze a bunch of cement board & ally clad town homes because that's what the "economy" dictates.
Kudos to Scalish for preserving and upgrading the housing stock that makes Tremont distinct! I'm pretty sure they manage to make a well deserved profit in the process.

I drove by earlier because I was curious what was going on. This is the brick building on the southeast corner.

This project is made possible by the City's Storefront Renovation Program, used to renovate and restore dilapidated retail and mixed use structures in the City. The end game for this building is to restore the storefront to a glass pane system and really open up that corner.

I second the praise for Frank and his crew, they do great work. They just wrapped up the Literary Tavern (formerly the literary cafe). Attached is a before and after.

This is at 2489 W7th. The brick house on the left is still under construction, and absolutely massive. The owner combined two parcels and it punches through the entire block to W6th. Apparently it's a spec house, and I expect will sell for a huge price. Midway though there's a two story all glass courtyard, and the sides are being clad in cedar and steel. Right next door construction just started on another house (or possibly multi family, is anyone aware?). There was a crane out last week lowering giant prefab concrete slabs for the basement walls.

To the right of the brick house will be two townhomes that look identical to the four already built around the corner at Marquardt and W. 6th (you can see the rear of them, the white buildings in the background of your pic). All 6 units are connected by a common drive off of 6th.

The house on W7th is not being built on spec, there is a buyer on board. Project should be done in the coming months.

Pic of the former Komorowski Funeral Home building in Tremont at 2258 Professor Ave.. This will be the home of resurrected Visible Voice Books and Crust pizza, which is relocating from Kenilworth.

^Anyone have an opening date yet?  Pizza and beer is basically my two favorite things and my wife is a prodigious reader so we'll basically live here when it opens.  Assuming that it lives up to our lofty expectations.

Have you not had Crust's pizza? It's pretty damn good and Visible Voice serves wine and beer as well. Mike(Crust) and Dave (Visible Voice) are great guys who happen to be cousins. I'm sure you'll have a favorite table both upstairs and downstairs soon

Tremont stays 'hot,' will add apartments

The Tremont neighborhood may soon get its first new apartment building.  A zoning change approved Aug. 16 by Cleveland City Council will allow developer Mike Tricarichi to build the first multistory, market-rate apartment building in the West Side neighborhood in anyone's memory. It will be at the southwest corner of Fairfield Avenue and West 11th Street.

"I think it's going to be a big success," said David Sharkey, president of Progressive Urban Real Estate. "It changes the whole face of the neighborhood."

Ralph McGreevy, executive vice president of the Northeast Ohio Apartment Association, a trade group, agreed, saying, "I think Tremont has been and has stayed hot as fire. Do I think it can absorb 75 units? Easily."

I was stuck at the light at Starkweather and Scranton so I took a quick shot of this building mentioned above. Coming along nicely.

edit: One more thing, the signage for the Lincoln condo building at Scranton and Wiley/Kenilworth was taken down, and the units are no longer listed on MLS. I guess the project was tabled again.

That's the kind of stuff you see on every corner in Columbus but has been lacking here. Nothing fancy, just bringing people and density into the neighborhood. kudos.

Looks like they want to reopen W 4th St in Tremont and rezone the hill down into the Flats. The meeting was last night and I heard it was...heated. Will have to check out the audio of it that I found on FB after work.

West 4th is where the towpath is being built. The proposed zoning wouldn't involve reopening it for cars.

I love that. It's the Cleveland Scene crowd... they literally think every development in the city is put forward by Tammany Hall hucksters.

Imagine how their brains would explode if they lived in somewhere where developers requests were actually streamlined.

I'm assuming the heat was for the re-zoning to MF H3 on the land behind the gated community (eastern side of west 5th, near literary)

City planning and Tremont West made it clear the rezoning was to align the property along the towpath with their desired use, which is dense residential. It isn't at all surprising people were defensive at the meeting.

There are factions in this neighborhood, all around town really, who fight against density at every turn.  They have more power than they should.

I agree. It's a perplexing provincial attitude. Every rational person in the neighborhood should be lobbying for more residents. Perhaps some renters are concerned about being priced out?

You're right, and I don't know why. Fairfax and Hough were virtual food deserts before Uptown and UC revitalized, and now there's a Constantino's and a new Dave's planned in Midtown, yet the biggest complaint I heard at the last Fairfax meeting was street parking and traffic congestion. COME TF ON

I may have read it but where's the new Constantino's supposed to be going?  And how will it compare with the three other ones in size?

Pretty sure that the Tremont Constantino's isn't happening. This article is vague and the part about the grocery store is buried, but this is that last thing I recall written about it:
