It is fun to see the original "STARR" letters appear as the building was home to Starr Pianos

Yes they were posted by me. :-P

http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,14187.msg775750.html#msg775750

Guys... I think, I THINK something exciting is about to happen. Noticed scaffolding up over the sidewalk under the Bulkley Building tonight and evidence of some rigging up top. Could this be at long last the restoration of the cornice?!

^ Good god, I hope so. When is the last time that cornice has seen the light of day?

My dream is that some day I will click on this thread and somebody tells me that the "something exciting about to happen" on Playhouse Square involves construction equipment on that damn parking lot next to the Hanna Building.

^i agree with you there. Hope I didn't disappoint you too badly... lol I know it's a small thing but we've been talking about that stupid cornice being covered up for as long as I've been on this thread like nine years ago! Baby steps

I snapped a photo while some of the netting is down... it does not look like they're working on the cornice though (at least not yet).

Perhaps this is in response to the legislation put into place requiring fašade inspections on some sort of regular basis?

That looks great. Thanks for the updates. For reference here is the historic photo submitted to landmark commission. I wish somebody would restore the facade of the building next door too.

^yes it'd be nice to have the (?)limestone ground flor facade back on the bldg. to the left (MCMV, i.e.,1905), the lime stone appears to be just bricked-over and would easy to remove.

Had lunch at Otto Moser's yesterday with a former Cleveland city planning director. The subject of the vacant lot across the street came up. My lunch partner said the apartment tower planned for that site is still very much alive. It's an out-of-town developer and student housing is definitely NOT part of their market as this will be a high-rent building, he says. I pressed him for the name of the developer but he refused to share it.

Were there ever any envisioned specs provided for this project?

The only things I've heard is that the developer was looking at a 30-story building, according to Cresco real estate. SOURCE: http://www.crescorealestate.com/latest-news/rejuvenated-downtown-cleveland-drawing-more-residents-businesses/

The lower floors would be a 600-car parking deck with retail spaces fronting Euclid Avenue, much like 515 Euclid. SOURCE: http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/08/high-rise_apartment_plans_emer.html

$4 million was requested from the state to help fund the parking deck but only $1 million was provided. SOURCE: http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2016/04/capital_bill_allocates_31_mill.html

I was looking at the webcam for the Edge at CSU , and noticed there is a boring truck in the parking lot on the corner of Euclid and E 17th... https://app.oxblue.com/open/clayco/edgecsu

It has been there off and on several times over the past 18 months.  Makes me wonder whether they got some unusual test results and had to come back for most testing, or are they drilling deeper this time?

^Doubt they (Soil reports) are any different then what they were in Summer '15. The soils there are Sandy and any high rise would need geopiers or other deep foundations.

Disappointed to hear it would be more student housing. I guess that's a need, but I would like to see another new development happen that could benefit more people than just students.

^ Are you referring to the potential tower that would be on Euclid & E. 17th? Where did you hear that it would be student housing? That just doesn't seem right.

Or are you referring to the Edge?

^I have the same question.  In everything I have read about the "proposed" Playhouse Square residential building I don't recall anything about student housing.
