The Financial District is larger than expected. Stretching east-west (along the Milwaukee River instead of the lakefront), the downtown has a gorgeous City Hall, Grand Avenue Mall, a riverwalk with cafes and shops, Pabst Brewery, various theaters, and the Caltrava-designed Milwaukee Art Museum.
