Heidelberg has been described as a "Ghetto Guggenheim." Found in one of Detroit's worst neighborhoods on the east side of the city, Heidelberg began in 1986 when artist Tyree Guyton began using everyday objects and discarded building materials to create art on a canvas of empty lots and abandoned houses. Now world-famous, Heidelberg continues to grow each year and provides an interesting reflection on inner-city life and American culture.
