I sent the email to Cleveland@plaind.com, Entertainment@plaind.com and Features@plaind.com, all posted on the website, and two of them bounced back. So, I don't even know if anyone ever got my letter. Bah!

My girlfriend's parents were in town this past weekend and so we all went to see the Monet exhibit, Orchid Mania then hit Severance for a piano concerto. Her Dad saw that dumb article in the morning and freaked out a little, but we had no parking problems at all.

The article failed to mention that a national spokesman for Intelligent Design was speaking at Strosacker Saturday evening as well -- now THAT'S something to be worried about.

I wouldn't be surprised, if the article had a reverse/negative affect and kept people away because of the potential - scratch that - perceived lack of parking.

Patrick O'Donnell's article about parking issues in University Circle (Saturday) glaringly missed a huge potential solution: public transportation. This sustainable alternative would eliminate any traffic or parking issues that any visitors would have.

More than a dozen Regional Transit Authority bus lines run through the heart of this district, and all of the museums are easily accessible from the Red Line rail, which has two stops in the neighborhood. Traveling to the museums is quite simple because, through its membership with University Circle Inc., the Circle Link shuttle runs continuously from the museums and the Red Line University Circle station.

University Circle Inc. is also responding with a press release about transportation alternatives (including more parking options and public transit) and has posted a more comprehensive map on their website:

The main message is that there are lots of options and no one should be discouraged from coming to the Circle when there's a ton to do. The solution: plan ahead! The interactive map feature at universitycircle.org has both parking and public transportation layers that can help people do so.

This email is in direct response to today's short piece by Patrick O'Donnell on the big events and parking problems in University Circle. In general, it is a plea to the writers to broaden their perspectives in regard to transit.

I am very well acquainted with University Circle and its institutions and while I do sincerely appreciate all the publicity that the PD gives to these world class venues, I am concerned with the message you are sending that the only way to get to this immensely busy locale is by car.

In your "other options" section, you suggest that visitors simply try another weekend. However, as is true with much of the city and its major destinations, our RTA provides a plethora of options for individuals and groups to travel by bus or train for a reasonable price. University Circle, in particular, is served by more than a dozen bus lines and the Red Line rapid. Some of these buses run through the heart of the Circle, while the rapid stops on the fringe, but is served by several free "circulator" routes that take passengers right to the venues they are looking for. For those who are able to walk, both stops are less than a 15 minute walk to various destinations. The website you referenced for University Circle Inc. provides a comprehensive map with all of these routes for visitors to reference, as does the RTA's www.riderta.com.

As University Circle continues to grow with more employees, residents and visitors, it is imperative that we promote transit as a viable alternative to private automobiles. Though the Circle currently has more than 10,000 parking spaces (yes, TEN thousand), more parking is not the solution to congestion problems.

In addition, the Euclid Corridor construction is now in full swing as it runs through University Circle. When mentioning traffic issues for drivers in the Circle, it might be helpful to note that Euclid is down to two lanes.

For those of you who want to get or remain involved in the process of making the Circle more accessible, this relates directly to many of the projects we're talking about in University Circle. From the VA expansion to the potential developments on the West Quad and in the Upper Chester neighborhood, CMNH and CMA expansions and the ever-growing Clinic campus.

This meeting took place last night and has been touched upon in the other University Circle thread. I'll post images this weekend and give more feedback from the meeting. For starters, there was lots of response from the public, both on the positive and negative side. The meeting ended with Councilwoman Sabra Pierce Scott insisting that we'll come back as many times as is necessary to get the best outcome to satisfy as many people as possible.

Speaking of SGS, I like her. MGD what is your opinion of her? I feel like she is anti Fannie Lewis and any of the "old guard" and actually wants to partner with residents and business to improve neighborhoods.

Anyone catch that story in the paper last week about the 17 yr old thief who was shot by the off-duty officer? There was a big to-do about it at the last council meeting. The newspaper article made it out to be that the black councilpeople were mad at the white councilpeople for not sticking up for them. Actually, that's not what happened at all. The truth is that the black councilpeople are all ticked off that Zack Reed keeps going to the Call & Post and saying that the black councilpeople are not sticking up for their constituents, etc. Strange how the PD (or, one reporter) twisted that one.

Update on the E. 120th Street (new Mayfield) station:

The Planning & Development Committee reviewed Request for Proposal (RFP) candidates for architecture/engineering design services to relocate the East 120th Street Station about 1,000 feet to Mayfield Road and to reconstruct the transit track bridge. The proposed vendor – City Architecture -- is expected to be voted on July 15. (from the July 1 RTA News)

The second in a series of community meetings on the $10 million Cedar-University Station upgrade and renovation will be held on Wednesday, July 23rd at Judson Manor (1890 E. 107th Street). I will post the precise meeting time soon, but mark your calendars!

Do you know if Studio Techne threw its hat in the ring for the design contract or if they were ineligible because of there master planning contract?

This project is high stakes!

StudioTechne's plan was very modern and cool. CA is not very good at that sort of thing.

^yeah, exactly what I was thinking. The Studio Techne plan was also super ambitious, so my expectations are...tempered.

For both the E120/Mayfield and Cedar stations, I hope the designs allow for incremental add-ons as the real estate market recovers and evolves- both seem to have excellent opportunities for adjacent private development.

I did try to search for any updates on the construction of the RTA station on E 120th St but could not find anything that is recent. Does anyone know if this is progressing and when work would start?
