Last week:

- The Houston Texans clinched their franchise's first ever playoff berth.  And they did it with their third-string rookie QB TJ Yates - who has lead them to three straight wins.

- Green Bay wins again to go 13-0.

- The Indy Colts lose again to go 0-13.

This week:

- The Denver Tebows, err Broncos, host the New England Patriots.  Who will prevail in this showdown?  Tim Terrific or Tom Terrific?

Last week's NFL recap:

- Green Bay is no longer undefeated.  The KC Chiefs, led by interim head coach Romeo Crennel, ended the Packers perfect season.

- The Indy Colts are no longer winless.  And neither is their starting QB Dan Orlovsky, who was winless in his nine previous NFL starts.  He had seven losses with the 0-16 Lions in 2008 and two losses with the Colts this year.  So congrats to both the Colts and Orlovsky.

- And the titanic meeting of popular QB's ended with Brady's Patriots topping Tebow's Broncos.  The Broncos took an early 16-7 lead into the second quarter.  But three Broncos turnovers before halftime lead to 20 straight Patroit points.  The Patriots stayed in control in the second half en route to a 41-23 win.

Say what you want about Braylon, but he is a good man at heart....

Yeah, I saw the last half of that feature story on ESPN. Good stuff.

I read that as well. What he did is unbelievable. You would think the guy would have scaled back his contribution after he left Cleveland but he took it a step farther:

"In addition to giving 79 area kids $10,000 each for college, 'The 79 students were provided with laptops and other supplies to help them out when they arrived on campus (the laptops and supplies were never part of his promised donation)."

Plenty of meaningful games in the last week of the NFL's regular season.  Some teams just need to win to make the playoffs:

- If Cincinnati wins, they get the last AFC wild-card spot.  If they don't, the NY Jets, Tennessee Titans and Oakland Raiders all have a chance for that wild-card spot.

- If Denver wins, they get in as AFC West champs.  If they don't, Oakland can be AFC West champs with a win.

- And the regular season ends with the purest "win and you're in" scenario.  The Sunday Night game is Dallas at NY Giants.  The winner will be the NFC champ.

And one team just needs to lose to win:

- The 2-13 Indy Colts hold a tiebreaker edge over the 2-13 St. Louis Rams for the #1 pick of Andrew Luck.  The Colts just need one more loss to clinch it.  But they've won their last two games.  Will they win their third straight and blow the #1 pick?
It's nice to be important.  But it's more important to be nice.

Sometimes you can lose but still win:  Cincinnati and Denver both advance to the playoffs despite Week 17 losses.  Thanks to the Jets and Raiders losing.

Sometimes it's better to just win:  The New York football Giants stomp the Cowboys to win the NFC East.

Sometimes you can just win by losing:  The Indy Colts locked up the #1 pick with a close loss at Jacksonville.  And they needed it too.  The Rams also lost to finish 2-14.  But the Colts "win" the tiebreaker for the top pick.
It's nice to be important.  But it's more important to be nice.

And Indy fired the Polian brothers.... most likely over a disagreement about what to do re Manning and Luck.  I hear Irsay is dead set on taking Luck, which creates a PR nightmare in Indy.  Let the circus begin!

Now I was wondering if that firing had something to do with Luck and Manning.  Man it would be great if they didn't take him and it shook up the top of the board a bit.

Neither Wallace nor McCoy are the QB of the future, but I have always thought Wallace is easily the better QB of the two.

Sorry, just realized I posted in NFL instead of Browns thread.  Oh well, the Browns are still technically a pro football team, so I suppose it's still on topic.

Teeeeeeeeeeeeeee-bow!

Yes he did, and I never stopped believing, even when the Steelers tied the score to send the game into overtime.  My faith never wavered.

I wonder if 43% of Americans will say that divine intervention was responsible for Tebow and the Broncos getting shellacked tonight

This is why I can't hate on Tebow, though my Facebook status did comment on the fact that the hedonist had 6 TDs when Tebow only had 3 completions....

That pesky Lucifer! God probably figured he gave Tebow enough attention and was catching up on his Words With Friends account.

The thrill of victory for the Patriots and Giants.

The agony of defeat for the Ravens and 49ers.

Those were two great games.

So, Tressel gets thrown out of college sports for ethics problems, but he is welcome in the NFL.  This reminds me of when the baseball owners would not let Debartolo  buy the White Sox because of his ties to the mob, but the NFL let him buy the Forty-niners.

He was actually thrown out for refusing to snitch on his players.  It's not like there was any involvement with drugs, gambling or anything else having a serious impact on the integrity of the game.

^^ The NCAA'd definition of ethics is suspect at best...hypocritical and arbitrarily applied at worst..

Those were two great games though.

They don't go with Tressel.  Instead, the Colts went with the Ravens defensive coordinator.

If the game is close, I'm going with the G-Men.  But I could also see a blowout by the Pats reminiscent of those 1980's Super Bowls when the NFC was running roughshod over whoever the AFC put in.  Putting a gun to my head, I'll take the under and the Giants by less than a TD.
