Well, lets hope the Dead S. don't get much press this weekend.  I think its time the band find a new name.

Yeah, within 5 minutes of hearing Bo's death, the Dead S. went from being my favorite bandname to my least favorite. :-(
Damn you Michigan!!!!! :whip:

Then again...

"The Dead Schembechlers, a Columbus, Ohio-based punk band which adopted the name of the late Michigan coach and dresses like late Ohio State coach Woody Hayes, will continue with concert plans on Friday night. The band, featured in Pat Forde's Forde-Yard Dash on Tuesday, is headlining a "Hate Michigan Rally" in Columbus.
A statement on the band's website, headlined "BO SCHEMBECHLER: OSU'S MOST VALIANT FOE" said on Friday: "The band is crushed to learn of the death of Bo Schembechler. We named this band after Coach Schembechler to honor him as the face of Wolverine football. We have never wished ill will upon him in any way and have always wished him the best. When we learned that Bo had seen our web site and was amused by it we were delighted. We were simply delighted. He said to those with him as he read it, "See, I still matter in Columbus!" That may have been the greatest understatement in football history. We believe that he took the band's name as the compliment that it was meant as and that he was flattered by it. We wish to extend our deepest and most heartfelt sympathies to his family. We are truly sorry for their loss. "

I've already suggested "The Woody Heys," or should they go the jamband route, "Woody Haze."

Only in Ohio...just disgusting.

Not only are they making fun of Schembechler, but they're worshipping a piece-of-sh!t coach who abused players, the press, etc. I never understood why OSU fans worship such an asshole. Woody Hayes = the Bobby Knight of football.

On top of that, my own experience leads me to lean more toward Michigan than Ohio State.  As a descendant on my mother's side from the gentry of Toledo, UM exerts a far greater pull

same here, plus Ann Arbor kicks ass.

• It is true that the late Ohio State coach Woody Hayes, who did more to pump up the negative feelings in the rivalry than any man, refused to fill up his car in the state of Michigan.

"I'll tell you why we don't," Hayes said, according to the seminal book, "Woody Hayes and the 100-Yard War." "It's because I don't buy one goddam drop of gas in the state of Michigan. We'll coast and push this goddam car to the Ohio line before I give this state a nickel of my money!"

• It is true that Hayes sometimes bunked his team in Toledo on the night before a game in Ann Arbor so the Buckeyes could sleep on Ohio ground.

That's why we love Woody Hayes!

Not sure if this has been noted, but the Dead Schembechlers are officially changing their name.

Well, we are finally at game time, and I must say I have had enough of the hype, but this has to be good for Columbus with all the exposure.  I just hope the students behave.  For now I am headed to BW3's to watch the game, which should be a great one - GO BUCKS!

If not for that dumb ass pass interference call it would be 28-7.

I don't like the "roughing the center call" but it is what it is!

Michigan isn't putting any pressure on the Bucks or Troy.

You got your "luckeyes" call with that ridiculous 15-yard penalty against Michigan in the fourth quarter. Poor Troy Smith looked like a pussy. Had that not happened, Michigan probably would have won the game.

You won this battle, but now it's time for round 2!!!

Great game although I was disappointed that the Bucks opened the door a couple of times with turnovers.  I certainly would argue also who benefitted most from "lucky" calls.  Troy Smith has definitely proven himself Heisman worthy and seems to thrive in the big games.  If Florida and/or USC lose there could be some debate who deserves the the number 2 spot and Michigan will seem to be as good a choice as any one loss team.  As a bonus, the Bearcats took out Rutgers to end any controversy of an undefeated BCS team not getting the championship game.  Now we get to listen to the media debate the Bucks chances of winning the title for 50 days....it should be fun and mildly irritating.

"The final score of 42-39 ended up being lucky numbers for more than just the Buckeyes. The Ohio Lottery will pay out a total of about $2.2 million to lottery players after 4-2-3-9 were chosen as the Pick 4 numbers in a drawing shortly after the game ended."

Columbus police keep celebrating OSU fans in line
By Rick Armon
Beacon Journal staff writer

COLUMBUS - With the spotlight from a police helicopter illuminating them from above, football fans poured onto streets and sidewalks Saturday night after Ohio State's nail-biting victory over archrival Michigan.  Police sirens, car horns, irrepressible screams and rhythmic chanting of "O-H-I-O'' mingled in the cold night air as strangers offered each other high-fives.  Along Lane Avenue, police tried to disperse heavy crowds early.  A row of 11 horses walked down the street and sidewalk, urging people to move along.  Students stood to the side, snapping pictures with cameras and cell phones.  Some people gawked at the affair from their porches; others sought a better view perched on roofs.  Still others were trapped, celebrating in their cars as streets quickly became gridlocked after the game.

Inside Larry's, a college bar along High Street, students erupted at the final 42-39 score, then spilled outside to join the communitywide celebration.  Columbus police were out in force, a presence on nearly every corner.  In some cases, their cars were lined 10 deep, with red and blue lights flashing a reminder of their ever-watchful eyes.  They were fulfilling the city's promise to avoid a repeat of 2002, when fans rioted after Ohio State beat Michigan in a 14-9 thriller.

Next.

But having 2 rivals rematch in a bowl game (after they ended their season together) has happened.  I know of at two occasions this has occured (one non-conference, one intra-conference).
1995 Sugar Bowl, Florida - Florida St. (I think it was the year that OSU won the Rose Bowl over ASU)
1979 Orange Bowl, Oklahoma - Nebraska (Back when the Big 12 was the Big 8 instead)
In neither case were both teams 1-2 coming into the bowl game.
