OMG!!! WHAT A FREAKIN GAME!!!

The Reds forum is drawing comments from around the nation with this win! I can't believe I missed a game like this. I was watching Superman Returns (in IMAX & 3D

). After the movie I looked to see if the Cards lost and to my surprise the Reds won. I couldn't believe it, I had to make sure that I was looking at the right date, because we were losing 6-0 when the movie started.

The camera starts out zoomed in on Bob Wickman and he looks like he was scared sh!tless to pitch to Dunn ... and ... watch Javier Valentine DDT Dunn when he gets to home plate ... un-freakin believable!

Does anyone know if the crowd asked for a curtain call?

Not so much what he said, it's all in how he says it...just a sec, I'll transcribe...I dropped the $15 on mlb's gameday audio, and while I hate paying to listen to commercial radio, I still gotta say, it rocks...you can listen to any MLB game, home or away, and I've only had trouble with the stream once or twice all season. I've actually used it most often to listen to Marty's call of games I'd watched on TV - either exciting endings, or else times they've fallen apart, to hear what he had to say about it...you can go back and hear archived audio of any game as well. For $15? That was definitely worth it.

OK, here's Marty's call, starting with Phillips on third, Freel on 2nd, two outs, and Lopez at the plate with a 2-0 count:

Lopez ahead 2-0, runners at second and third, two men out. Pitch: that's ball three.

What is interesting about this season for Bob Wickman is that the next home run he gives up will be the first one he's given up in this 2006 year.

Pitching, and he walked him and they are loaded.

Well, if nothing else, he has certainly made it interesting. Phillips at third, Freel at second, Lopez at first, Adam Dunn steps in against the right-hander who's yet to give up a home run this season, and a home run right now would cap off a rather impressive comeback.

Here's Dunn, whose only hit tonight in four times, a seventh inning single, had the double to win the game in the eighth inning last night. And the stretch by Wickman and the pitch, and it's taken high ball one.

They are pacing in the Cleveland dugout, manager Eric Wedge, pitching coach Carl Willis. It is 8-5, Indians. Dunn up there with the bases loaded, the outfield deep and around toward right, and the 1-0 on the way to the plate.

Swung on...long drive, right field, and this one belongs to the Reds! Can you believe it? Can you believe it? Adam Dunn with a screaming line drive into the Cleveland bullpen in right field, and the Reds have done what appeared to be the impossible!

His teammates are waiting on him, Jerry Narron is out of the dugout banging his hands together, Adam Dunn with a 9th inning 2-out grand slam home run, what a finish at Great American Ballpark! The Reds have rallied to beat the Indians with nine runs in their last two at bats, they win it 9 to 8! [with a little laugh in his voice:] We'll be back in a moment...

Yeah, Dunn gave a curtain call. He was absolutely mobbed at the plate - like, I saw everyone in the scrum - Arroyo was jumping up and down, going absolutely nuts (which, after getting bent over last night was great to see)...Lopez was waving Dunn in to the plate, like he couldn't follow the bright white line or something...anyway, mobbed, they were jumping up and down for a while, finally back to the dugout. Dunn had like three bats in his hands, then came to the top of the steps and waved his hat to the fans - didn't really take time to lap it up, but gave the crowd a wave and then into the dugout.

Yep, I saw my 7th loss, the 9th loss on our tickets. It was interesting to see all the Clevelanders however. After the game, a guy with an Indians jersey asked me where the bars were. I told him I wasn't the one to ask, but suggested Main Street in OTR. I pointed him and his female partner in that direction and they headed that way. I hope there are some bars there, otherwise I sent them on a wild goose chase.

I don't think we'll make the playoff's, but if we can get a bullpen next year. We should see our first playoff team since the 90's. The moves now is just a bit too little and too late. You should have had them months ago to help pad a huge lead in the division instead of now catching up.

The Reds may have jumped the gun on extending Narrons contract.
It is half way through the year and we have yet to see a consistant line-up on the field.
He's always saying how he wants to get this guy and that guy playing time. Who cares if a bench player doesn't play every other day. I want to see the best players on the field at all times. These guys don't need days off, it's baseball for crying out loud, the catcher is the only player that needs a day off every once in a while. I don't get it. If you really want to win games then you should play your best players all the time. Stop screwing with the line-up Jerry Narron.

When every single pitcher in the bullpen is capable of blowing the game, and has proven that over and over again, I just don't think you can blame Narron for that. You may be right on the consistent lineup (although Jr. needs days off as well, and some of it is platooning lefty/righty, and we have had some injuries to throw in the mix) - but who on earth can Narron put in there to close out a game? These losses definitely aren't his fault.

Of course, that's not what you said - you just said the Reds may have jumped the gun on extending his contract...that well may be true...

The Cincinnati Reds announced an eight player trade Thursday afternoon that sent Austin Kearns, Felipe Lopez, and Ryan Wagner to the Washington Nationals for RHP Gary Majewski, LHP Bill Bray, SS Royce Clayton, IF Brendan Harris, and RHP Daryl Thompson. The move reunites Kearns with the man who drafted him and Felipe Lopez with the man who went to great efforts to make him a Red, former GM Jim Bowden.

I like it, allthough i would have like to trade Dunn instead of kerns.

but you have to think that kerns untill this year had lost a lot of trade value because of injury's and such.

Sorry if this is a stupid question....but are these 3 pitchers proven quality guys or what? I would certainly hope so, but I just dont know of any of these pitchers except Majewski. Also, how is the other infielder (Brendan Harris)?

I would say were going to get good pitching here and the rest of the guys are just thowens.

Wait a minute...I fell asleep reading last night, so I didn't know the game had even started back up - but let me get this straight...after a 2:23 rain delay, they start the 3rd with their bullpen, who pitch seven scoreless innings between six relievers, against the best team in baseball...and Jason LaRue hits the winning RBI double?

I need to stop going to games and start sleeping through them...

County to buy Reds some new green

If the Cincinnati Reds don't make the playoffs this year, they'll play on new grass next year. Hamilton County Commissioners on Wednesday approved a $303,443 contract with Cincinnati-based Motz Group Inc. to rip up the existing turf at Great American Ball Park and reseed the field.

If the Reds are still playing Oct. 9, though, the turf replacement will have to be delayed one year, said Eric Stuckey, assistant Hamilton County administrator. For the Reds to be playing that late in the year -- their regular season ends Oct. 1 -- they would have to make the playoffs. If the Reds don't make the playoffs, Motz will tear up the field, reseed it and then place a "seed blanket" over the field that will protect the grass through the winter, Stuckey said.

Thats what I was saying before about Jerry Narrons line-ups. Today(Sunday July23) he left Edwin Encarnacion out of the line-up ( he's only the hottest hitter on the team right now ) for Rich Aurilia who promptly went 0-4 in the game. I doubt one guy could have made a difference in the outcome, but it still doesn't make sense to me. In Saturday's game the reds had runners on 2nd and 3rd and Narron pinch hits for Scott Hatteberg who was 3-4 with 3 rbi's on the night. I don't get it.

Cincinnati still leading NL wild card race

(Sports Network) - After getting off to a great start in the second half of the season, the Cincinnati Reds still find themselves leading the National League wild card race. At 52-47, Cincinnati has won seven of its last 10 games and holds a one-game lead over the San Francisco Giants for the final playoff spot.

The Reds got off to a tough start last week, dropping two out of three games to the New York Mets, but bounced back over the weekend by taking two out of three from the Milwaukee Brewers. The Reds relied on clutch hitting during the Milwaukee series, scoring 14 runs during the two wins.

The team is 26-16 when either of the pair starts, but only 26-31 with their other starters.
