Agreed. Weihenstephaner is legit.

Too bad they quit importing Krombacher, because that would have been a big hit.

Mecklenburg Gardens also has the Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, which is the real deal.

Have you ever had the urge to round off the top of the U on Mecklenburg Gardens signs?

Magic Hat #9 and Moerlein OTR on the menu would probably keep me from experimenting too much at Yard House.  There are some pretty good IPA's on the slab.  A few dunkels would round their selection off.  I know Weihenstephaner is well-respected, but I could never get with it.  I usually go Belgian if I want a strong wheat.

Weihenstephaner isn't strong (like 5.5%), which probably explains why you prefer some Belgians if you're looking for a higher ABV beer.

That's a great list.  Just wish it was a little cheaper, though it's not out of the norm for very good craft beer.  Hopefully they'll have a good happy hour.

Developers aim to have hotel open at The Banks in time for 2015 All-Star Game
Property would have 200 rooms across from ballpark

By: Lucy May, WCPO Digital

Developers hope to open a new hotel at The Banks on Cincinnati’s central riverfront in time for the 2015 All-Star Game, they told WCPO Digital Thursday.

Executives with Atlanta-based Carter said they are targeting completion of a 200-room, select service hotel just across from the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame in time for the game in July 2015.

“It’s a great aspirational goal to achieve,” said Scott Stringer, Carter’s executive vice president.

^It's amazing what an impact landing the All-Star Game has had.  This is one of the few times I've seen Cincinnati push for progress without naysayers jumping in immediately.  I'd love to see what we could accomplish if we somehow got the Superbowl.

I got ahold of the Yard House's opening tap list. Short on locals, but about what I expected.

Wow ... impressive.

All that great beer and still the top three sellers will surely be Bud Light, Miller Lite and Coors Light.

That is quite a list. Aside from the obvious local brands they've got some real quality regionals....Bell's, Leinenkugel's, New Holland, Founder's, Great Lakes.

Happy to see a couple black IPAs on the list. 21st Amendment's is great; I haven't tried Stone's. Though I'd imagine it's really good, since all the Stone IPAs I've tried have been amazingly awesome.

Three more tenants opening soon at The Banks

Retail space at The Banks is just about completely leased, and by this summer nearly every square foot will be occupied.

After Yard House, located at 75 E. Freedom Way, opens Sunday, March 24, there are a few more tenants lined up to open their doors.

Next up for The Banks, Jimmy John’s is scheduled to open April 1. Located at 171 E. Freedom Way, this will be the first quick-service restaurant at the development. Jimmy John’s fills a 1,147-square-foot space.

A hotel for the Banks is back in the news. Possible for one to open by the All-Star game.

^This sounds pretty promising. It seems like they're in serious discussion already. I'd love it if it turned out to be an aloft. I think they fit this style of development nicely and offer better overall aesthetics that will help offset the CR crapitecture that is there now. The aloft in Cleveland looks great and something in that style would look great here as well.

I'm excited to hear more news on this in the future. A hotel there, the streetcar, plus future phases of the Riverfront Park all operational by the All Star Game would be a dream come true.

Pretty good. Disappointed in the lack of New Belgium, though. Thought for sure they (both New Belgium and Yardhouse) would try to expand further east with the new Cincinnati location.

Welcome!

I wouldn't expect New Belgium to be sold in Ohio until 2015 when their East Coast facility in Asheville, NC is up and running.

Considering that New Belgium isn't distributed in the State of Ohio, there is a 0% chance that it would be on tap at the Yard House.

For those unfamiliar with the distribution of beer in the USA, I would recommend watching a documentary like Beer Wars, it's pretty interesting. Until I watched it I had no idea that it's basically impossible to just start making beer and selling it anywhere you want.

I think I have had it in my queue on Netflix for a year.  Your endorsement is enough to nudge me to watch.  Yard House will be great and I hope we can support both them and MLH.

The Banks, Toby Keith's settle lawsuit
Steve Lanier | Courier

A dispute between the Banks' developer and Toby Keith's I Love This Bar and Grill, which is housed in Phase 1 of the project, has come to an end.

The Banks' master development team of Carter and Dawson Co. announced Tuesday that the parties have come to an agreement and they are dismissing their lawsuit regarding unpaid rent.

Did they really brick up a window?  Oy.....

The brick in the picture above will have a faux "ghost sign" of a beer brand.

The same brick will be all over the inside, which I realize doesn't make it ok for the outside :)

Maybe they're doing it ironically -- the actual building is fake brick, but the fake bricked up window is real brick.

Walked past it today. It's decent looking actually & if they put old gooseneck lights above it to light up the faux ghost sign it might look good. I just hate the giant crappy structural part of the banks, hope they learn for Phase 2

Fake brick really applies to every brick used nowadays because it’s usually just a single layer of brick on the outside of a stud, CMU, or concrete wall, rather than actual 2 or 3 wythe brick which would never be used anymore since a modern building needs things like insulation and vapor barriers.

Bakersfield 2.0 at the Banks?

Jefferson Social, a neighborhood bar and restaurant serving Mexican street food, will move into a more than 4,000-square-foot space at the Banks riverfront development.

The second phase of the Banks has a price tag.

The total project investment for Phase 2 of the Banks riverfront project will be $67 million, according to the 2012 State of Downtown Report from Downtown Cincinnati Inc.
