Moving From Toledo to Cleveland

(1/2) > >>

stock1986:
I'm moving from Toledo to Cleveland, already have a job in Lyndhurst.  But I am having a hell of a time finding an apartment or house that takes dogs, specifically a Great Dane.  I'm looking for something that is less than a half hour commute to work and under $700 a month and I'm just not finding much.  Any help anyone can offer on places that might work out for me?

KJP:
Welcome to Greater Cleveland, stock1986. I grew up across the street from Lyndhurst but remain familiar with the area. I can tell you $700 isn't much for an apartment, especially one with a yard where your Great Dane can stretch his legs. I think your best bet is a house, and if you're willing to come up a little bit on your rent expectations and get the owner to come down on theirs, then here's some suggestions worth checking into. Perhaps you can find a home where they're asking for less than $700 and if they balk at allowing a large dog, offer to pay $700 or a little more. I emphasized some potentially decent places that might allow a large dog by marking it with an asterisk....

Not sure if this is in KJP's big list, but Lake West on Lake Ave. in CLE welcomes dogs, they have a big sign saying so.

I know it looks haunted, but I can assure you, only the elevator is haunted. Nice neighborhood too. A block to Edgewater Park, walkable, and convenient highway access.

Good suggestion. That was not on my list. I listed only east-side locations.

See also if you can find some small, pre-1970 homes in Chesterland to rent. Just about everything built in Chesterland since then is of the McMansion variety and expensive.

I don't know, Mayfield Road from Chesterland into Lyndhurst in the winter could be a nightmare.  The hill in Gates Mills drives me nuts on snowy roads.

I would have to imagine there are some homes in Mayfield Heights or Cleveland Heights for around that price point.
