Downtown Kent (87 pics)
« on: June 24, 2012, 09:36:29 AM »
I walked around Kent today.  Here are my Pictures of Downtown.  It starts with the new construction: Acorn Alley (Phase I & II), The Kent State Hotel, the PARTA center, the rehab of the old Hotel, and the new development on water street.
Then it jumps around a bit.  It is of S. Water st., then Main St., back to S. Water, to Franklin, finally to N. Water.

If you want to see something in more detail, I can go out again.  I may walk around campus soon and hit y'all up with a remix (if you want it.)

Great set! Documents the downtown revitalization progress pretty well. But more IDs of what we're seeing will help people who are unfamiliar with Kent.

BTW, it always amazed me how quiet and empty Kent is in the summer. I had an apartment off-campus in the late 80s and stayed there year-round. You could always get a table at your favorite bars and restaurants without waiting!

Any construction starting yet on the extension of the Esplanade? I did a Google search but no news. However in GoogleMaps you'll see something interesting. Check out the third house on Willow Street north of College Avenue. Where is it going?? :-o

Thanks for sharing, I haven't been to Kent since graduation, nice to see everything coming along.

KJP - At the end of the school year they had started to make way for the esplanade extension, so I would hope construction has begun now.

I'm diggin' it!
I love it when people come into a message board and immediately begin to mix it up.  I mean, Jesus, at least say hello!  Do you walk into a room full of strangers, pick a random woman, and tell her she's fat? - buildingcincinnati

I had heard that too, which is why I was hoping there might be some photos of any construction. It actually looks on Google like they're moving houses and tearing up some dirt along SR59. And I'd seen plans showing a traffic circle next to the new PARTA center, but I wasn't sure if that was just a proposal or if it actually made it into final design with funding for that.
