Photos from yesterday's Komen Race For The Cure in Downtown Columbus:

Record Setting Crowd Raced for the Cure in 2010

On Saturday, a total of 50,286 people registered for the 18th Komen Columbus Race for the cure, topping last year’s participating crowd of 47,000.  Over $2.5 million was raised by the effort, which will benefit breast cancer screening, treatment, education and research.  The participation rate makes the Columbus race the third largest Komen Race for the Cure in the world.

Thanks for the link to the Festival thread on CU. ;) I've always felt that our impressive festival season is one thing that Columbus could stand to be more proud of.

Anyway, really impressive turnout for Race for the Cure this past weekend. Always great to see so many show up for a great cause!

Columbus Mega Summer Weekend 2010 - Vol. 6

Big events on opposite sides of the downtown.  To the north, at Goodale Park in Victorian Village, is the massive ComFest on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  To the south, in German Village, is the 51st Annual Haus und Garten Tour

And in between, for the soccer fanatic, is a great Saturday doubleheader at Crew Stadium.  The 2:30pm U.S./Ghana match will be shown at the stadium.  To be followed with the Columbus Crew returning to MLS action with a game against D.C. United at 7:30pm.  And it’s Buck-a-Brat night too!

Columbus Mega Summer Weekend 2010 - Vol. 7

What to do in Columbus on a Fourth of July weekend?  Besides lots of fireworks, of course.

Well, there's the 25 year First Saturday of the Month tradition of the Short North Gallery Hop.  There's the Fourth of July version of the Picnic with the Pops on the Chemical Abstracts lawn Saturday at 6pm.  The Columbus Crew host the Chicago Fire at Crew Stadium on Saturday at 8pm, with fireworks after the game (naturally).  And then there's that Short North twist on July 4th parades with the DooDah Parade on Sunday at 1pm.

Celebrate your freedoms and have a Happy Fourth of July!!!

The always popular Dublin Irish Festival kicks off Friday and lasts through Sunday.  The Ohio State Fair continues through Sunday.  And the first Summer Flea in the Short North on Sunday sounds pretty intriguing too.

Gay softball tournament visits city for first time
Monday, August 16, 2010
By Jeffrey Sheban
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Columbus is playing host this week to a tournament said to be the largest gay sporting event ever played in Ohio.  The 34th annual Gay Softball World Series will run Tuesday through Saturday on the 31 playing fields at Lou Berliner Park on the South Side.

The event is taking place in Columbus for the first time, with the games free and open to the public.  Previous host cities have included Chicago, Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto.  In addition to the on-field action, some of the 2,500 to 3,000 athletes on 148 teams from 37 cities will attend rallies; parties; and, on Tuesday, a Columbus Clippers baseball game.

From Columbus Underground:

Columbus Mega Summer Weekend 2010 - Vol. 15

The Columbus Crew will face FC Dallas at a special 4PM Saturday time to honor the founder of both teams, the late Lamar Hunt.  The Lamar Hunt Legacy Day will feature an unveiling of a statue of Lamar Hunt prior to the game.

Also on Saturday, Urban Scrawl takes over Dodge Park in Franklinton from Noon to 8PM.  The Grandview Art Hop is also on Saturday from 5-9PM.  The Obetz Zucchini Festival will celebrate its 25th anniversary at its new location in Obetz Memorial Park all weekend long.

And if you haven't seen the broadway show Wicked at the Ohio Theatre yet, this weekend is your last chance to do it.  It ends its month long run at the beautiful downtown theatre on Sunday.

From Columbus Underground:

Columbus Mega Summer Weekend 2010 - Vol. 16

The Ohio State Buckeyes started their 2010 season last night at the Shoe.  The Columbus Clippers are ending their 2010 regular season on Friday (although they made the International League playoffs, so they'll have a few more games at Huntington Park).  Also downtown is the long running Labor Day weekend tradition of the Greek Festival at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral on North High Street.  That and the Short North Gallery Hop will make for a crowded intersection at High & Goodale.

Along the riverfront in front of COSI, Waterfire and BalletMet are having a free performance Friday night at Geona Park.  And inside COSI will be the Titanic exhibit which ends on Labor Day.

And finally, the Bike the C-Bus tour will be on Saturday and the Wexner Center will be free on Sunday.

Cyclists tour neighborhood 'melting pot'
Sunday, September 5, 2010
By Mary Beth Lane
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Bicyclists will tell you that there is something special about seeing a city from two wheels.  About 400 of them did (on Saturday).  They pedaled through the neighborhoods of Columbus, from one to another and then another, on a grand tour called Bike the C-Bus.

From King-Lincoln to Woodland Park.  Into Olde Towne East, German Village and the Brewery District.  Through Downtown and the Arena District and across the river to Franklinton.  Over to Harrison West and Victorian Village.  Up through the University District and into Clintonville.  Down to the Short North.  Back to the historic Lincoln Theatre block of E. Long Street.
