thanks, I've always wondered what that school looked like. I had a friend at Ohio State whose older sister went to Minnesota and claimed (while we were all at the Blue Danube  one evening) that there was no equivalent area like High St with its vast array of casual restaurants & bars near that campus. How accurate is that? (then again, that was over 30 years ago, so it may have been much different back then)

Minneapolis seems like a great city, but this campus is lacking something.

This is nothing like University of Michigan or University of Wisconsin. It appears Ann Arbor and Madison runs circles around Minneapolis as far as university districts go. I'd say Ohio State looks better too. I think a big part of the issue is landscaping. This is a harsh-looking campus. The main green looks nice, but outside of that, there is too much concrete and too much modernism. And that Boston City Hall cousin automatically brings the place down a couple notches.

The basketball arena looks incredible though. I love historic arenas. That might be the best arena in the Big Ten. I'm indifferent towards the football stadium, but the large grain elevator complexes next to campus is pretty unique and marks it as a Midwestern city. I'm interested in seeing more of the general area (commercial district, nightlife area, student neighborhoods, fraternity/sorority row, etc.). What's the housing like?

* outside of dinkytown almost all of the bars and clubs are over the river next to the west bank of campus (cedar-riverside), which has the hippie/punk music history and is still thriving, i saw it but didnt go there because i wanted to see the gehry

It's tough to compete Dinkytown with *ahem* DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS so I'd say Dinkytown is fine for what it is.  And, of course, the students would MUCH rather go to downtown Minneapolis with Dinkytown's secondary option than live in Ann Arbor or Madison.

Also, TCF Bank Gopher Stadium is easily the best Big 10 stadium outside of Ohio State ;).  I love love love it.  And I must say, Gopher fans are the nicest Big 10 fans, period.
I love it when people come into a message board and immediately begin to mix it up.  I mean, Jesus, at least say hello!  Do you walk into a room full of strangers, pick a random woman, and tell her she's fat? - buildingcincinnati

Looks nice too me. Not too suburban but not extremely urban either. Nice for a college campus and being by one of America's best downtown areas is such an advantage. Love the new stadium too.
Ohio has great cities. Pittsburgh is wonderful!
