As a resident of Orlando I can tell you that this building is a dozen blocks north of downtown proper, on Orange Avenue, near a large lake and the gentrified neighborhood of College Park.

Do we really need threads like this on Urban Ohio? If so why not ONE General: Crime discussion thread? I'm watching 6 TVs right now and although sad, the Orlando shootings, is not a major news event.

Very sad, hopefully all survive in the Orlando tragedy.

A little emotional right now or something?
Fine, we can clear this one out of *General Discussion* along with Religion, Race, NASA to Bomb the Moon, Naomi Sims, The Youtube Thread and Inglorious Basterds. Because those are all directly related to the discussion of urban issues.

Is having one thread for stuff like a bad thing?

Yes, as I see it, Urbanbar functions perfectly well for what it is, while thread consolidation is for continuing discussions of highly related conversations?
I mean, I might just be crazy. (No sarcasm intended.)
Anyhow, the area is full of cops, I-4 is shut down as the building is right next to it, 2 nearby schools are on lockdown, and the shooter is not in custody...believed to be hiding in an attached parking structure.
Update: At least 2 have now died.

The thread belongs here and is staying. No further discussion on its location.
What a tragedy. I can't wrap myself around the fact that all these people are carrying out their normal work day and this happens. It can be anyone that goes crazy like this. How can you ever feel safe?
