Interesting to me!    I was one that expected numbers to be much higher by now considering the times we are living in.    Encouraging nonetheless!

Keep in mind that violent crimes tend to decrease in frequency over the colder winter months.  So being ahead of the game at this point is very encouraging.  48 homicides at this point would put us on pace for like 60 or so on the year if things were to continue at this trajectory.

I wonder if the relatively cool summer we had contributed to that.

I would have expected that violent crimes would be up in this economic climate.

The connection between weather and crime is really weird...(not winter...that makes sense...but hot summers = bad crime...it's just strange)

More people outside dealing drugs would be my guess.

Norwood UDF robbed at knifepoint
The Enquirer, October 6, 2009

NORWOOD – Police are searching for a man who robbed the United Dairy Farmers, 3491 Montgomery Road, about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say a white man wearing a dark pants and a hooded sweat shirt held up the store at knifepoint.

--

Only reason I'm posting this is because 3491 doesn't exist. I think this is the Montgomery/Dana UDF, the one with the loud classical music blaring all hours of the day :D

This may not be the correct thread, or may have been discussed but what is the deal with the new toyota highlanders that the cincinnati police have been using? Im suspecting they are just their new standard police vehicles since ford is no longer making the crown victoria. Im not sure I enjoy the new logos however..

They are used for the K-9 units. I'm not for sure what they are replacing their standard-issue cars with, but I suspect it is either the Chevy Malibu (or Impala?) or the Dodge Charger.

Ford still makes the Crown Vic for the police market. They are also rolling out a policed out Taurus. The Impala is the policed Chevy until they roll out the new Caprice police car (the old Pontiac G8). I'm not sure anyone is buying Chrysler's right now. No one would risk getting stuck with cars that don't have parts.

"Come on guys If it's being warm it has no effect what so ever if someone wants to kill someone. "

I thought it was common knowledge that hot weather is correlated with crime. There is invariably more crime in summer than winter. They keep prisons cool to keep tempers down.

They say that bad weather is the policeman's friend.

So are these new highlanders just for special purpose or are they the new patrol vehicle choice of the CPD?

I'm very familiar with this area, and I know that lots of drug dealing and prostitution goes on here.  It rarely happens on St. Michael Street itself, but rather on some of the lesser traveled cross-streets through that part of the neighborhood.

Anybody else following Maximillian's chasing-down of the Prospect Hill plant thief, broadcast to the world in real time via Facebook? This is more exciting than the OJ Simpson police chase.

You know, you pull out a gun on police and you are bound to be killed. They are taught to shoot to kill, not shoot to injure your leg or flatten your tires. A good call on the police.

Yes.  Anyone shooting at police officers (or shooting at other people with police officers present) will not survive.
