Bigg's to exit Cincinnati market
Business Courier of Cincinnati

Remke Markets and Supervalu, parent of Bigg’s supermarkets, announced that Remke will purchase six Cincinnati-area Bigg’s stores and their pharmacies, as the chain exits the Cincinnati market.

The remaining five Bigg’s stores will close before the end of June, the two grocery chains said in a Monday news release. Bigg's employs about 1,600 in Greater Cincinnati, according to Courier research.

This is actually the second time (at least) that Remke's has tried to make a move into Cincinnati. It looks like most of the closures are on the west side or were hypermarkets. They clearly couldn't compete with Meijer and Walmart. The survivors were mostly their recently redone grocery stores. I miss Bigg's here in Columbus.

I'm surprised Union Center is closing. I thought everything in West Chester turned to gold.

Remke is keeping the "real" Westside stores. ;-) I, too enjoy that Remke is sticking it to Mason and West Chester. Colerain and Harrison are too far west for me.

My KY co-workers love Remke. I'll get to find out soon enough. The two Westside stores are barely two/three miles from each other.

Remke will purchase the following bigg’s stores:

* 3240 Highland Ave., Columbia Township.

* 5071 Glencrossing Way, Westwood.

* 5218 Beechmont Ave., Anderson Township.

* 3872 Paxton Ave., Oakley.

* 9600 South Mason-Montgomery Road, Mason.

* 5025 Delhi Road, Delhi Township.

biggs stores closing

* 4450 Eastgate Blvd., Union Township.

* 10501 New Haven Road, Harrison.

* 8340 Colerain Ave. Colerain Township.

* 4824 Union Center Blvd., West Chester.

* 4874 Houston Road, Florence.

Remke brings associations of Rumpke. Not good advertising for a place to buy food. :-)
