Anyone know when this bike shop is opening/who is opening it? This is the storefront on Central Parkway that is part of the Gateway Garage.

According to Christopher Smith on facebook: Segway of Cincinnati is expanding to create a showroom and to make more room for electric bikes...

Anybody know what's going in on the corner where the shoe place was for a brief time?  It says nails and spa services, and looks like some kind of clothes, too.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

I now have some information. It will be a bike repair shop/additional showroom from the Segway people.

Over the Rhine is getting safer
By Ann Thompson
3/19/2012 3:20:25 PM

Cincinnati police are seeing a dramatic drop in homicides in Over the Rhine. Today the Chief listed possible reasons and described what police are doing next.

In a media news briefing Chief James Craig reported a 100-percent drop in Over the Rhine murders. He says nobody has been killed there since September.

Since then Craig has put more officers in the field, worked with neighborhood groups, targeted the most violent offenders and took them off the streets, and has involved the department in youth mentoring.

He's confident the decline in Over the Rhine crime will continue, and cites a 40-percent drop in murders citywide.

Hmm this is kind of hard to believe for me...
Hard to tell.  I'd say that bypass 4 looks close to being finished, but that's what I thought several months ago.  Then they threw in those bizarre U-turns, concrete islands, and scary Klingon-Bird-of-Prey traffic lights.  I truly fear what comes next.

I don't know why you would say that. But I do want to know from when there has been a 40% drop. My guess is a 40% drop over January to mid-March of last year.

What is hard for you to believe? The fact that there have been no murders in the past 6 months?

Criminals that do their business in abandoned buildings and dark alleyways will be forced to quit or go elsewhere if the abandoned buildings and dark alleyways disappear. More residents and more businesses have added to the safety of the neighborhood by adding more eyes on the street. There are still vacant buildings but the number is decreasing. There are still dark streets but now there are many thriving streets full of legitimate activity.

Media Bridges has announced that they will be moving from their current location at 1100 Race St (the Barlow Motors Building) to the WCET/WVXU studios at 1223 Central Parkway.  I'm not sure who owns the building at 1100 Race.  Perhaps that law firm that occupies part of the building will be expanding into some of Media Bridges' old space.  Otherwise, this will be a great new location, right by the SCPA and Washington Park, for a new business to open.

Huh? Are you implying there is something bad about the word Hapa?

Hapa is a Hawaiian language term used to describe a person of mixed Asian or Pacific Islander racial or ethnic heritage- via Wikipedia.

Is that bad?

Is it bad?  No.  It's just hilarious to me.  The usage of ethnic slang in restaurants (Hapa, Mahogany's, etc) is always something I get amusement at.

I'll be interested to see what kind of concept this Hapa place is seeing as how it's the former Beluga owner. Beluga had good food, but it was very pricey and had an identity crisis: Nightclub, lounge, or sushi restaurant? If I recall right, in the last few years before they closed there were cover charges and dress codes on the weekend. It was a total "see and be seen" place and we all know those places peak and then fizzle (a la Passage, BANG, Lunar, etc etc) And the interior was I'm sure very expensive when Beluga was first built, but now just looks silly and outdated.

Hoepfully he's learned a thing or two on the way...

Are you sure Mike Halama is doing Hapa? I heard that before but thought it did not materialize. What I hear now is Embers doing a sushi restaurant in Trinity Flats, and the Pho Lang guys doing "Asian Street Food" across the street.  Maybe Halama is partnered up with Embers, but I originally heard he was leaning more towards Thai.

Ah....rumors.

On another note, what is with the inability to attract/retain a decent tenant into the old Park+Vine location that actually fits the direction of the GQ right now? There was a store called "Shoez" or something like that there and now there's a combination nail salon/ghettowear shop. Seems like this space would be under pretty high demand, no?

Took a walk around today and I was impressed with the activity on the 1400 block of Race.  Westfalen II, Bakery Lofts, and the Park Haus are in full swing.
On a side note, anybody know what the PVC pipes sticking out of the sidewalk in front of Saengerhalle are?  Electrical rough-ins for new lighting? They are pretty weird.

As far as 2-way conversions, I think they are important to make areas off Vine navigable.  14th needs to be a 2-way and the conversion of 13th was the right thing to do as well.  I really don't think it has to do with the garage being done at all. I'm surprised to hear parking spaces were lost on 13th as it only had parking on the north side before, and remains.  Two lane in the same direction were replaced with two opposing lanes.

Ghettowear?  Itīs okay to not like the storeīs selection, but to classify oneīs socioeconomic status based on the fashion (not cleanliness) of their clothing is discriminatory to a terrifying degree.

Can we move this discussion of urban attire to an appropriate thread. Thanks.

Totally disagree on 2-waying 14th. What is the point?? Are we to assume people are idiots and can't figure out 1 way streets? Or that if it's not 2 way people will leave OTR & never come back? If they pass 15th they can turn on 13th or 12th now to get to the park.

Make 15th 2way. It's way wider & significantly under utilized. Keep 14th as is.

Why is it too skinny? Because cars can't travel at 35 mph through it? Tell most European cities that.
