Cleveland: Inside Spinnaker's and Other Flats East Bank
« on: May 24, 2008, 04:09:16 PM »
These photos were taken from inside of the old Spinnaker's on the East Bank of the Flats.  It doesn't seem too far gone yet, and with a little work, the place can be fixed up nicely.  There seems to be a lot of good salvageable stuff in there, from the bar and mill work to track and stage lighting.  I'm surprised that scrappers didn't hit it and the other places.

Bonus photos from Babylon (right?) across the street

More bonus photos of Old River Road

(I'm glad someone finally changed that Wrestlemania billboard from like 5 years ago.)

And finally, my two favorite shots from the set

It's sobering to think how much money was spent on some of those entertainment establishments and how busy and exciting they once were, and then to see what's become of them. Good photos; you cover some interesting territory.

Very sad. I know there's something new coming, but I have lots of great memories from those places going back 20 years to the peak of the Flats.

Thanks for sharing the pics.

so did you just walk into spinnaker's? I remember going through that area a few weeks ago, and it appeared one could just walk right in through the front door.

^ pretty much.  One of the front doors was cracked open a tad, but not locked nor screwed shut.  Babylon was wide open.  All of the other places looked well secured.

I was by there Saturday, lots of demolition since then. Definitely sad.

Bricks from Peabody's Down Under and House of Brews will live on as part of my back yard patio.

The Flats was at one point one of the most unique and entertaining places to hang out in Ohio.  Such a shame about its current state.  Hopefully they do a good job revitalizing it!

I was by there on Sunday for more patio bricks. Amazing, at the former Beachcomber aka Hooters there are about 1,000 full bottles of Samuel Adams beer in a dumpster (liquidation!) right next to the building.

Whoever neglected that beer is a criminal in my book.

Anyhow, it was very therapeutic hurling those full bottles into the brick wall.

Really- it makes the coolest sound you've ever heard.
