Need help to ID Cleveland Building
« on: March 07, 2008, 05:40:05 AM »
I hope someone here with a good knowledge of Cleveland can help me identify a building.  I haven't seen the specific area it's in to even be able to tell you if the building is still there or not.  (Pathetic I know. Sometimes I don't get around all of downtown Cleveland.)  I think it was at the intersection of Huron and Prospect, it seemed to be a thin building right as the corner of the streets met, and then fanned out.  I saw a picture from the 1920s that said it was in the "Osborn Block" and it had a sign on the top of it marked "The 4% Lake Shore Bank." I find nothing on the internet on either name.  Any clues?

Thanks in advance!

^^^It's still there- it was converted into apartments 5 years ago or so.  I think some forumers might even live there?

Listings are here: http://www.forrent.com/apartment-community-profile/1030655.php

That first few photos, I assume is a common area, look almost as grandmotherly as entry of my building.

Those photos are of the management office which is in the Huron Square building... The HS workout room is also right there... Personally I like the Osborn MUCH better.

I assume it is the Osborn being you mentioned the name. The KSU link is to the triangular building on the left with the Osborn to the right:

my guess is they are old pictures from when they first opened... HS opened a few years before the osborn... no models in this place as occupancy is pretty high.  There is always turnover but rarely more than 2-3 units available at any time.  The white walls are awful.  After much harping, I finally got them to start painting them beige to at least create a little contrast.

the back half of the building is now home to Great Lakes Financial Group (one of the principal owners of Osborn & Huron Square)... Sadly the front half is vacant.  I've seen the interior... it is in REAL bad shape.  It would take a decent amount of money to even get it inhabbitable.  They have had a decent amount of interest in the space, but no one willing to pull the trigger.

Can anyone say Constantino's of East downtown? :-D

^^^I may be the only one who feels this way, but i like the old taupe color better than the brick-color...  For some reasons, painting brick walls brick color just really rubs me the wrong way.  It seems to be very popular :(

I agree about painting brick. I actually thought it was a natural brick color. But I think the color now is far improved over what it used to be.

The color white makes me want to murder people.  Seriously it tears apart the very fabric of my soul... unless of course it's terra cotta... then it's ok

I think it looks better at street level, in person, than in the pictures.

In no way am I saying the pictures of the photographer are bad.

Should this really be in City Photos?

Thank you all for the information. Silly me, when I first did a search I looked under the name "Osborn Block Cleveland" and got all kinds of weird results.  I didn't think the building itself was named Osborn. DUH!

I actually like the new look of the outside of the building.  I always felt that is was such an unusual shape and very distinctive for Cleveland, and I think the color makes it even more prominent.

I knew you all could help me.  By the way, I think this is such a great forum because it really does celebrate the good things about our cities, and has some great constructive criticisms when needed.  Thanks again.

I never noticed that it was painted brick color.  I had assumed they had somehow removed the paint.  I still think it looks better this way.  One thing I will say though is that they should have left the script "Osborn" on the turret.  That was very kitschy, '50's style.

No more than the sleep your losing over your morning coffee.
