mid-summer night baseball: reds at mets
« on: July 15, 2007, 09:53:12 AM »
we went to shea to see the reds-mets game saturday night. enjoy some baseball!

the #7 train ride to shea

not many reds fans - a few tho

i peeked thru a barrier -- new citibank stadium going up right next to shea

it was ralph kiner nite, voice of the mets & ex-tiger (and tribe too)

so there was lots of old kiner's korner interview reminiscing before the game
pete rose, eric davis and daryl strawberry

also, guests too like bob feller, yogi berra, tom seaver, & keith hernandez

more construction pics

old scoreboard

sideview -- looks like an old tv set or computer monitor

some views from the stadium

manhattan skyline

the sound

world's fair unisphere & us open stadium

blue & orange sunset....portends doom for the reds

mr met

station ramp to shea

citibank stadium site at night

heading out after the game

waitin on a train home

*** sorry to say glavine out-dueled belisle & the reds lost 2-1 (attendence was 51,742)

Cool.  Never been to Shea.  Only Yankee Stadium in New York and that was years ago.  The attendance numbers sound good . . . is that good or bad attendance for the Mets?

^ had enough of the cookie cutter stadium style, eh? you prob know but shea was the original inspiration for those.

it's terriblely designed inside, ridiculously steep stairs and narrow walkways inside, etc., but to be fair they did not know what they were doing yet. no one will miss it...or yankee stadium either, which is another kind of mish-mash mess of its own. both of these new local stadiums are long overdue.

How can you even compare Yankee Stadium to Shea?  Besides the fact that New York teams play at both, that's where comparison ends.

exactly, they are quite alike in that they are both crappy old stadiums that are long overdue for being replaced. the terrible mid-70's overhaul ruined the old classic era yankee stadium for good.

I've heard some pretty bad things about Shea too. The new ballpark is going to be very nice! If anyone has a second go online and check it out -it's def worth it!

I'm not a big fan of big-money teams, but for some reason I love watching Mets games. I think it's the combonation of players, a completely different feel versus watching a Yankees game -to me.

By the way, I just love how NY ripped off Mr. Redlegs with bootleg-ass Mr. Met. Irks me everytime ...

I like watching just to see the Mets steal the yanks thunder.

Some Indians fans may remember "I hate the Yankees” hankies that were handed out at CMS. I was too young but I wish I would have held onto that damn hankie from back then.

actually, the reds also ripped off mr. met as mr. crackhead met was the first mlb mascot (meaning walking around the stadium in a suit mascot, not the graphic image -- that was of course mr. redlegs). also, there is a lady met and three little mets too for reds fans to fume about.

funny, but mr. redlegs himself must not mind too much, he attended mr. mets birthday party with the other mlb mascots in 2002.

So really, Mr. Met did rip off Mr. Redlegs and simply "came to life" first at games.  Damn those Mets!
