Ironically, you'd probably never be allowed to pull this off on foot or on a bicycle.

As one might surmise, the drive thrus in Detroit are far more prohibitive of non-car traffic. I have a friend who was denied service on a motorcycle at Wendys.  At the bank, I've been refused on bike at the teller window, and once, while accessing the drive-up ATM on foot, a bank employee went to the bother of coming out of the bank to yell at me. But then, this is all exists in the context of a culture wherein drivers turning right on red honk angrily at pedestrians nervy enough to be in the crosswalk. Damn, it's good to be a Buckeye.

Some of those suckers have some serious pickup.

One of our tech support guys used a motorized wheelchair, and he drove that thing like a soccer mom drives an Escalade. All of us learned to listen for the whine of his motor before stepping into the corridor. :-o

LOL, that's hilarious.  I guess cause the thing has 4 wheels gives it a pass through the drive through.  I've actually been given service walking through a drive through.  But this is because it was 2:00 a.m in the morning and the dining area is closed.  I guess it's up to how safe the employees feel.

Your anecdote reminds me of an incident several years ago in Athens, OH.

It was late (after a gig) and I was STARVED, but the only restaurant open nearby was a Papa John's. Walk-in service was closed, but they were still doing deliveries. The catch, however, was that they refused to deliver to the (seedy) hotel where I was staying.

I begged and pleaded. They refused.

I called them on my cell phone from the parking lot and asked if they could deliver a pizza to me in my car. They refused.

I could see the employees inside the restaurant. They were making pizzas. Drivers were leaving on runs!

I called back and offered that I could leave a 20 on the ground outside their door, move back a safe distance, and let them set the pizza down on the ground and take the $20, no questions asked, no change required. They refused.

I briefly considered bribing a departing driver for his pies, but by then I was so furious, hungry and exhausted, I felt I might actually go ahead and commit an actual crime.

Sadly, to this day, I don't boycott Papa John's.
