Piatt ParkI changed up the order of the first two volumes. I figured it was only fitting considering Piatt's history.For those unfamiliar with Cincinnati, this is a gorgeous park that sits in the middle of what is 8th street, but this portion has been renamed Garfield Place, for which the park also features a statue of this Ohio born president. ***Cincinnati dates the beginning of its park system to 1817 when the city accepted the donation of land downtown that is now Piatt Park. Welcome, to  The first part of the thread is from the winter time, you will later see some green!   I love this pic!  The Garfield statue:  Cool fountain, IMO:  GREEN!!!    Thats all! Do you know if there's any connection between the Piatt name on this park and the family that built the Piatt Castles near Bellefontaine?

Nice pics, but James Garfield is from Moreland Hills, near Cleveland.
Wm. Henry Harrison is on the Elm St end of the park. You could argue he's a Cincinnatian.

It had its origin somewhat as follows: When the Catholics first came to Cincinnati, the property-holders refused to sell them land, but Benjamin M. Piatt, who was a large property-holder then, was less hostile, and notified Bishop Fenwick, that he could have a building site not far from his residence. The intercourse thus opened up between the clergy and the Piatt family, resulted after a while in the conversion of Mrs. Piatt from the Methodist to the Catholic faith. And, while I don't have the dates on me, Piatt Park was changed to Garfiled Park at one time in the city's history and then changed back. When they changed it back they didn't bother changing the name of the street so that's why it is Garfiled Place and Piatt Park.

So when do we get the next edition of Cincy Parks? Easy now....I just poped this guy up here not too long ago. I'm a busy man, but since this seems to be a VERY popular thread idea, and there are a ton of GREAT city parks....I will welcome anyone else to pick up where I have left off, and we all can go from there! Lets share the greatness of Cincy's parks with the world!!!
