Valley essentially made Cleveland what it is today. The heart of
the industrial side of Cleveland, it has produced millionaires and
billionaires, blue collar and white collar jobs, and well, those tall
skyscrapers in the skyline. Because of the Industrial Valley and the
valley's river, the Cuyahoga, Cleveland became a powerhouse in the 20th
century and retains its class into the 21st century. Sub-neighborhoods in the Industrial Valley include Maingate,
one of the largest distribution centers in the eastern United States.
Standard Oil (John D. Rockefeller's company) and LTV Steel factories'
homes were in the Industrial Valley. Though the neighborhood went from
18,900 residents in 1910 to only about 550 today, the neighborhood still
is one of the key neighborhoods in Cleveland that helped shape what
Cleveland is today and forever.
